Apparently the internet has opinions about what a massage therapist is “supposed” to wear… so let's talk about it. 😂

I don't wear scrubs to work.

And honestly? There's a pretty specific reason for that.

I used to work in the hospital, and after years of COVID-era hospital life, the sound and feel of scrub material became a sensory trigger for me. The swoosh swoosh every time I move around the table? 😵‍💫

No. Thank. You.

During a massage, I need to be present, grounded, and comfortable so I can focus on you. If wearing something that overstimulates me makes it harder for me to be fully present, then scrubs aren't doing either of us any favors.

So I wear what works for me.

Sometimes that's leggings. Sometimes it's a dress. Sometimes it's something a little more fashion-forward. Sometimes it's giving ✨whimsical massage therapist✨ and honestly, I'm okay with that.

Because maybe we can bring a little more whimsy and individuality into massage therapy.

One size definitely does not fit all in this career.

Massage therapists come from different backgrounds, have different bodies, different sensory needs, different personalities, and different approaches to their work. There isn't one cookie-cutter path to being good at what we do.

So… do the fit checks stay a daily thing?

Oh, absolutely. 😂

Now let's talk about massage.

I don't pretend to be a super-duper professional business owner who has everything perfectly curated 24/7. 😂

I'm a bodyworker. I'm a human. I'm also perimenopausal. And these are genuinely the clothes I wear to keep myself comfortable through different seasons, different sessions, long days, movement, and all the other little pieces of life that happen in between.

My body is changing. Your body is changing. Everyone's body is different, and we're all in different stages of life.

Sometimes an outfit is cute. Sometimes it's practical. Sometimes it's both. Sometimes I'm just trying not to sweat through a 90-minute session. 😂

And honestly? I think the world could use a little more grace.

Not every intrusive thought needs to become a comment. Not every difference needs to be criticized. And not every person you encounter needs to fit neatly into whatever idea you have of what a "professional" is supposed to look like.

We can choose kindness. We can choose curiosity. We can choose to keep the mean little thought in our head and keep scrolling.

Because we're all just trying to exist in these bodies and make it through the day.

A little grace goes a long way. 💜
