This is what happens when you stop worrying about doing everything the “traditional” way and just CREATE. ✨

I built this very nontraditional clip-on hair system in ONE day, in between clients, with very limited time.

I couldn’t find my clear tape, so red tape it was 😂
I didn’t get everything marked exactly how I normally would because I was rushing.
I didn’t even have all the matching hair I wanted, so I improvised — using two closures on the sides and a hand-tied weft in the back.

And somehow… it turned out SO pretty. 😍

This is exactly why I love custom hair replacement. There isn’t always one perfect formula. Sometimes you have to look at what you have, think outside the box, and BUILD what your client needs.

It’s proof that you really can create almost anything when you’re willing to problem-solve and trust your skills.

Definitely not traditional. Definitely not perfect during the process. But the end result? 🙌🔥

TOPPER REINVENTED ✨ — Part 1

Sometimes a technique doesn’t work exactly the way you pictured it… and that’s where the learning happens.

For this client, I actually cut the topper/closure in half thinking it would give me the coverage and placement I wanted. Once it was installed, though, I realized it was just too bulky through the sides.

So I pivoted.

I added a topper over the top, and visually it turned out beautiful — but realistically, it was just too much work and maintenance for her.

That’s when we decided to completely rethink the system.

We ended up transforming the entire thing into a custom clip-on topper, and it turned out SO good. 🙌

This was one of those situations where something “going wrong” actually taught me so much and led us to a better solution for the client.

This transformation turned out SO good. 🤩

For this client, we created a custom extended meshless piece for the top and added one row of extensions underneath for extra fullness and length.

She actually had quite a bit of her own hair, but needed more coverage through the very front and slightly around the sides. That’s why I love building these systems specifically for the person sitting in my chair—we were able to custom-fit the piece to her head, her density, and exactly where she needed coverage.

For her extension row, I used my Crown Lock method, including the way I connect the beads and start with a nano bead along the edges. This is especially important when working with finer hair because my goal is always a secure row without unnecessary slipping, pulling, or tension.

When installed and maintained properly, my clients can typically wear their row for around 8 weeks between maintenance appointments while keeping it secure and comfortable.

Custom hair replacement isn’t one-size-fits-all. Sometimes it’s a full system. Sometimes it’s a smaller custom piece. Sometimes we combine it with extensions.

It’s all about building exactly what that client needs. 🖤
