Hazel Leaf Healing
Serving Gainesville, Florida and online coaching clients. Hi! I am no stranger to anxiety and depression. My body felt so uncomfortable to live in.
Hazel Leaf Healing helps people find relief from anxiety, insomnia, overwhelm, stress, and emotional suffering through massage therapy, energy work, coaching, hypnosis, and nervous system healing. I’m Craig Antley, licensed massage therapist and founder of Orange Blossom Massage and Energy Work, located in Gainesville, Florida. This city became my home after moving here in early 2020 and falling in love with the culture, nature and beauty. By the time I was 18, I had had 3 major depressions and compounding anxiety that sent me spiraling down a dark and winding path. I couldn’t sleep, my thoughts scattered like a million trains going in every direction and nothing seemed right nor ok. I didn’t feel like myself. I started to feel true loneliness and alienation from what was happening to me; at times wondered if I would make it. Both these afflictions sent me on a path to find my own healing journey. After learning how to do inner work with the help of mental health specialists and through my own path, I came to the outer work of massage, having work done from the outside in. Massage truly helped me. I felt I could finally relax, take a breath and see with a calm heart and open eyes. My stress levels went down and I started feeling like myself, not just trying to survive the onslaught of a never ending hurricane. I know massage can help many others too. This is what I have to give and offer back to our community. It’s my purpose and passion to help people feel more at home in their bodies, to free up trapped energy, and to provide relief from the physical symptoms of anxiety and depression. I know the heaviness of depression and how debilitating it can be in relationships, careers, and in daily life. I know how an anxiety attack can become traumatizing causing more anxiety around it happening again, growing into a chronic anxious web. Whether you want to ease stress, more restful sleep, feel more comfortable in your own skin, experience freer flowing energy, or to just be able to finally take a breath, I am here to help. Outside of practicing massage, my favorite things are spending time with loved ones, playing guitar, writing and producing music, hiking, running, and exercising my mind by reading and learning almost anything. I look forward to hearing from you and connecting with you soon!

Not every stress response means you need to become better at calming yourself.
Sometimes you're overwhelmed because...
you actually have too much on your plate.
No breathing technique changes an impossible schedule.
No productivity system creates unlimited capacity.
And nervous system regulation shouldn't become another way of telling yourself:
"I should be able to handle more."
Sometimes support means working with what's happening inside you.
Sometimes it means changing what's happening around you.
Fewer responsibilities.
Clearer boundaries.
More help.
More rest.
Different priorities.
Knowing the difference matters.

Imagine you're carrying grocery bags into your house.
One more item isn't particularly heavy.
But both hands are already full.
Where are you supposed to put it?
Overwhelm can work the same way.
Sometimes the newest responsibility isn't actually that big.
But you're already carrying:
Work.
Family.
Money.
Decisions.
Poor sleep.
Unfinished tasks.
Emotional stress.
And then someone hands you one more thing.
The problem isn't always the weight of that final thing.
Sometimes there's simply nowhere left to put it.

Anxiety and overwhelm can feel almost identical.
Racing thoughts.
Tight shoulders.
Difficulty concentrating.
Irritability.
Trouble sleeping.
But there's a useful distinction.
Overwhelm often sounds like:
"How am I going to handle all of this?"
Anxiety often sounds like:
"What if something goes wrong?"
And sometimes one creates the other.
You become anxious about everything you need to accomplish...
which makes everything feel overwhelming.
Or you become overwhelmed by everything you're carrying...
and start worrying about what will happen if you can't keep up.
Understanding which pattern is happening can help you figure out what you actually need.

When you're overwhelmed, your first question may be:
"How can I get more done?"
Try another question:
"What's taking up my capacity right now?"
Maybe it's the workload.
Maybe you haven't slept well.
Maybe you're anticipating a difficult conversation.
Maybe you're carrying responsibilities that aren't yours.
Maybe your mind hasn't stopped solving problems in weeks.
Another productivity system isn't always the answer.
Sometimes you don't need to become better at carrying more.
You need more room to carry what already matters.

Overwhelm doesn't always look like falling apart.
Sometimes it looks like:
Getting everything done.
Meeting the deadlines.
Taking care of everyone.
Answering the emails.
Keeping the schedule moving.
And quietly wondering how much longer you can keep doing it.
You can look completely capable from the outside while your body stays tense and your mind never really switches off.
High functioning doesn't always mean you're not overwhelmed.
Sometimes it means you've become very good at functioning while overwhelmed.

You lose your keys.
Someone asks you a question.
An email arrives.
Plans change.
And suddenly...
it's too much.
Sometimes we judge ourselves because our reaction seems much bigger than what just happened.
But imagine your capacity like a glass.
Work.
Money.
Relationships.
Poor sleep.
Responsibilities.
Decisions.
Worry.
Each adds a little more.
The small thing that finally sends you over the edge may not actually be the problem.
It may simply be the last drop in an already full glass.
This week's article explores why you can feel overwhelmed even when the individual things you're dealing with don't seem that big.

If you wake up anxious, try not to make getting rid of the anxiety the first task of your day.
Because then you may start checking:
"Is it gone yet?"
"Why do I still feel this?"
"What's wrong with me?"
And suddenly you're anxious about being anxious.
Instead, try:
"My system is activated this morning. What would help me begin a little more gently?"
Maybe that's waiting 10 minutes before checking your phone.
Drinking water.
Stepping outside.
Stretching.
Or simply sitting quietly before the demands of the day arrive.
You don't need the perfect morning routine.
Sometimes you just need a little space between waking up and reacting to everything.

What does your nervous system expect morning to mean?
Maybe it's:
Work.
Rushing.
Emails.
Deadlines.
Responsibility.
Taking care of everyone.
Getting everything right.
When the same sequence happens over and over, your system can learn:
Morning = Prepare.
Eventually, your body may begin reacting before your conscious mind has even figured out what it's worried about.
Instead of asking:
"Why am I like this?"
Try asking:
"What has my system learned to expect?"
That question can open a very different door.

You just opened your eyes.
Nothing has happened yet.
But your chest already feels tight.
Your mind is already running through everything you need to do.
And somehow you feel behind before you've even gotten out of bed.
Morning anxiety can feel confusing because sometimes there isn't an obvious reason for it.
But your nervous system doesn't start from zero every morning.
If your system has learned that mornings mean pressure, responsibility, rushing, or uncertainty, it may begin preparing before you've consciously thought about the day ahead.
This week's article explores why that happens—and what may help.

You don't have to become a completely different person to change your relationship with anxiety.
Sometimes change looks much smaller.
A stressful moment happens...
and your body settles sooner.
An anxious thought appears...
and you don't follow it for the next three hours.
Your shoulders tighten...
and then let go.
You notice yourself worrying...
and recognize the pattern before getting pulled into it.
That's not failure because anxiety still appeared.
That's flexibility.
Your system is discovering that the old response isn't its only option anymore.
