Today was one of the most fascinating historical days of our journey. We visited the chimney ferries. These are where the early Christians hid from the Romans after Jesus' death. Disciples Peter and Paul started this community to build the Christian religion, and they hid in the caves that jut out from the Rock; the frescoes within the caves are mind-blowing pictures of all the disciples,the Last Supper and Jesus: there’s an area called the Black Church, where sultans and emperors scratched out the eyes of all of them so people would stop worshiping them and instead worship the Sultan/or the emperor. It's so sad to think that other men feel so small they have to deface the frescoes. The pictures I will be posting are abundant, and this information will give you the history and background.

Göreme sits at the heart of a network of valleys filled with astonishing rock formations. Being a center of early Christianity, it also has the most painted frescoes on the Cave walls and ceilings, as well as hermitages and monasteries, in Cappadocia. The village sits within the Göreme National Park, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.[8]
