Does walking make hip arthritis worse? 🚶‍♀️

Not necessarily! Walking can help maintain mobility, muscle strength, and everyday function for many people with hip arthritis. However, the right amount of activity depends on your symptoms and how your body responds.

If walking consistently increases your pain, leaves you limping, or causes discomfort that lingers afterward, it may be time to reassess your pace, distance, footwear, or activity level.

Hip pain can also come from muscles, tendons, the lower back, or other sources - so identifying the cause matters.

You don't always have to stop moving. Sometimes, you need to understand what your body is telling you and find a better way to move.

What Makes Modern Chiropractic Different From Early Chiropractic?

Chiropractic began more than 130 years ago.

The profession’s foundational interest in the relationship between the spine, nervous system, movement, and function has a long history, but the way chiropractors evaluate patients has continued to evolve.

Today, depending on the office and the individual, modern chiropractic may incorporate:

🩻 Digital imaging
📊 Posture and movement assessments
🦴 Specific chiropractic techniques
🦶 Extremity and biomechanical evaluations
🛏️ Spinal decompression technology
⚡ Technologies such as shockwave therapy

But technology doesn’t replace the fundamentals.

It gives us additional tools to better understand what may be happening beneath the symptoms.

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic in Fort Collins, we combine chiropractic principles with modern evaluation and technology to help patients better understand their spine, nervous system, and movement.

More than a century of history. Modern tools. The same curiosity about how the body functions.

How Long Does It Take for a Stiff Back to Feel Better? ⏳

The answer? It depends on what’s causing the stiffness.

Not every stiff back is the same:

💪 A mild muscle strain may improve within several days.
😣 A more irritated muscle may take longer to settle down.
💿 When a disc problem is involved, recovery can take considerably longer - sometimes weeks or months.

That’s why simply asking “How long until this goes away?” only tells part of the story.

The more important question is: “Why is my back stiff in the first place?”

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic in Fort Collins, we evaluate spine function, movement, and other potential contributors to help identify what may be behind your symptoms.

Once you understand the problem, you can make better decisions about the appropriate next steps instead of simply waiting and hoping the stiffness disappears.

Recurring stiffness is a signal. Find out what your back is telling you.

Is Your Hip Pain Coming From a Muscle or a Bone? 🦴

Hip pain can feel similar even when the structures involved are very different.

Muscular discomfort may feel sore, tight, or tender and can sometimes become more noticeable when the muscle contracts or stretches.

Pain involving a joint or bone may feel deeper and may become more noticeable with weight-bearing or certain hip movements.

But there's an important catch: symptoms can overlap.

Hip discomfort may also involve joint mechanics, the lower back, surrounding soft tissues, or nerve irritation - which makes guessing based on pain alone difficult.

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic in Fort Collins, we evaluate movement, hip mechanics, spine function, and other potential contributors to help patients better understand what's going on.

Muscle? Joint? Spine? Don't guess based only on where it hurts.

What’s the Best Sleeping Position for Shoulder Pain? 😴

When your shoulder already hurts, the way you sleep can make a big difference in how comfortable your night feels.

A few adjustments may help reduce unnecessary pressure:

🛏️ Sleep on your back when comfortable, using a pillow to support the affected arm.

↔️ Sleep on the opposite side and consider hugging a pillow to keep the painful shoulder supported.

🚫 Try to avoid spending the entire night directly on the painful shoulder if that position aggravates your symptoms.

But here's the bigger question:

Why does your shoulder hurt enough that sleeping has become difficult?

Shoulder discomfort can involve the joint itself, surrounding muscles and tendons, repetitive strain, previous injuries, biomechanics, or even involvement from the neck and upper back.

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic in Fort Collins, we look beyond your sleeping position to help discover what may actually be contributing to the problem.

A better pillow position may help tonight. Understanding the cause can help you determine your next step.

If We Treated All Professions Like We Treat Chiropractors 😂

“Oh, you’re a software engineer? So… not a real engineer?”

“I don’t really believe in accountants. Once you start paying them, you have to keep doing it every year.”

“My cousin had one bad teacher once, so I’m staying away from teachers.” 😅

Sounds ridiculous when we say it about other professions, right?

Yet chiropractors hear versions of these arguments all the time.

A profession shouldn’t be judged by a stereotype, someone else’s experience, or the idea that you have to “believe” in it.

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic in Fort Collins, we’d rather show you what we do, why we do it, and how our approach works - then let you make an informed decision for yourself.

No belief required. Just ask questions. 😉

What Could Be Causing Your Constant Back Pain?

When back pain becomes a regular part of your day, simply covering up the discomfort may not answer the most important question:

What keeps causing it?

Persistent back pain can have many possible contributors, including:

• Joint and spinal dysfunction
• Disc irritation or degeneration
• Muscle or soft-tissue strain
• Poor movement mechanics
• Repetitive physical stress
• Prolonged sitting and postural habits
• Nerve involvement

That’s also why two people with similar back pain may need very different approaches.

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic in Fort Collins, we evaluate spine function, movement, and nervous system health to help uncover factors that may be contributing to recurring discomfort.

And when back pain is accompanied by significant weakness, bowel or bladder changes, major trauma, fever, or rapidly worsening symptoms, prompt evaluation is important.

Constant pain is a signal. Instead of getting used to it, find out what may be behind it.

Your Child Keeps Complaining About Back Pain. Should You Wait? 🎒

Back pain in a growing child deserves attention - especially when it keeps coming back.

Childhood and adolescence involve major periods of growth and development. At the same time, kids are dealing with classroom sitting, backpacks, sports, screen time, and everyday physical stress.

Recurring discomfort may be a sign that it’s worth taking a closer look at:

🧍 Posture
🦴 Spine function and alignment
🎒 Daily physical demands
🏃 Movement and mobility
📈 Changes happening during growth spurts

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic in Fort Collins, we evaluate how a child’s spine is moving and functioning to help families find the answers they’re looking for early instead of simply waiting for the discomfort to become a bigger problem.

Back pain may be common, but recurring pain shouldn’t simply become your child’s “normal.”
