Genesis was born out of a deep longing to find a compatible skin companion for my own skin a few years ago. I was exhausted in my healing journey of trying to appease my skin that was continually trying to heal from one hormonal acne breakout to the next. I knew my healing began on the inside yet I was desperate for something I could topically apply to help my skin find its rhythm again.

Garden Reverie — back in stock. Our softly tinted lip + cheek balm in a deep, lived-in Merlot hue. Grass-fed tallow, olive oil + beeswax are slowly infused with calendula, elderflower, marshmallow root, lavender, rose petals, orange peel, cardamom + vanilla. Nourishing, buildable color that feels especially at home this time of year.

Chai Whip — our little jar of autumn. Regenerative tallow whipped into a rich body moisturizer with warm clove, cinnamon + vanilla and skin-loving helichrysum. Cozy, softly spiced and made for the return of dry-weather skin.

Forager — the harvest serum. Pomegranate, meadowfoam + pastured emu oils slowly infused with hibiscus, calendula, orange peel, thyme and wild rosehips we gather ourselves along the river at our family ranch in Wyoming, right at peak harvest. A whole-food vitamin C serum made to soften, brighten + support the skin through the changing season.

Sunbird has always been a little different from a traditional skincare company because so much of what goes into our jars begins right here at home.

We render the tallow. We infuse the herbs. We distill the botanicals. We formulate, blend + pour in small batches, with little hands often somewhere nearby.

It’s honest skin + body care made close to its ingredients, with a deep appreciation for where they came from and the hands that carried them along the way.

At 38 weeks with my third baby, I haven’t developed stretch marks from pregnancy. I could easily give a jar of moisturizer all the credit—but my honest take is that healthy skin is never built by one thing.

Stretch marks are influenced by hormones, diet, inherited skin structure, collagen and elastin, and how quickly the body changes. But I don’t believe our only choices are “it’s genetic” or “this moisturizer will prevent them.”

Skin is an organ, and it is nourished from both directions.

From within, it needs adequate protein and amino acids to build collagen, vitamin C and minerals to support that process, and nourishing fats for healthy barrier function. The skin even has its own circadian clocks involved in repair, renewal and water loss—which is one reason I believe our light, sleep and daily rhythms belong in the skincare conversation too.

Do I think eating well, seeing morning light and applying moisturizer guarantees a stretch-mark-free pregnancy? No. We don’t have evidence to make that promise, and every body responds differently.

But I do believe resilient skin is cultivated over time.

At Sunbird, I often describe skincare as 90% foundations and 10% the supportive fence. Our whipped tallow moisturizers are part of that fence: slow-rendered tallow and botanical oils that soften the skin, replenish its surface lipids and help slow moisture loss while it stretches.

I cannot separate my natural skin makeup from my gradual pregnancy changes, nourishment, rhythms or consistent body care. I suspect they are all pieces of the same story.

That is my honest answer: moisturizer is not magic—but deeply moisturized, well-nourished skin is better supported than skin left dry, tight and depleted.

And when my body is doing this much work, I want to tend it from every direction.
