I Wouldn't Go Back.

Thank you for opening our weekly email! We send a quick newsletter most weeks to let you know about what is happening or on our minds in the salon!

I wouldn't go back. I really wouldn't. In a month I celebrate 21 years of doing hair, and I really wouldn't give anything to go back to 2005 and it's world of hair.

I wouldn't go back. I really wouldn't. Especially building a clientele- dear goodness it was so hard for someone who is relatively shy of strangers! But as for inspiration photos- let's start here:

Why are you coming into the salon today?

1. Desperation: Split ends, terrible color grow-out, a botched performance from another salon
2. Self care: you just want to feel better. Lighter, fresher, loved, cared for. You know a trip to the salon will do the trick!
3. Inspiration: you saw a haircut/color you love, and you want to have it for yourself! The style matches your aesthetic and ability, and you're excited!
4. Maintenance: you have a "look" and you need your every 4-10 week fix.
5. Aspiration: you want something totally different. It doesn't look like you, it doesn't match your current ability, and it's expensive. You are becoming a new person!
6. Life change: Your face has changed. Your hair has changed. You are having surgery, and it's time to put your big girl pants on and face the music.

Let me offer you some relief: not every trip to the salon needs an inspiration or aspirational image. You can literally just say, "lighten me up!" Or "Just a trim" or "Just make it feel better." We will ask the questions necessary to be sure we don't take it too short, too blonde, or too dark.

For those trips that do require an image (aspirational or inspirational), bring them but hold on to them lightly. We are humans working with a uniquely human product. We always do our best but in some cases we are bound by time, budget, and decades of experience. DO YOU KNOW we offer free consultations? If you are very attached to an image, come in for a consult so that we can honestly assess both plausibility and budget! We would actually love it!

And if you fall into the life change category- just ask! You might not like the answer, but we will gladly help come up with the best way to manage your new look with respect and dignity.

We look forward to having you in our chair- but don't stress too much about finding the perfect inspo pic. We've got you!

The Babes Are Going Back

Welcome to our newsletter! We are so excited to let you know about last minute appointments for you and your family every week, as well as any news or housekeeping we need to share.

If you have had the pleasure of visiting the salon in the last week, you might agree it projected at times a very different experience than the one you might have seen online or have experienced in the past. Back to School around here meant everyone brought their children, parents, spouses, etc! There were several times we had multiple families in our space, leaving us seating some of y'all in unusual places. By Saturday afternoon Samantha and I barely had words left, and we even considered a temporary name change to "Three Tired Mamas, A Salon Experience."

We actually had the most epic week and enjoyed creative and interesting work from your teens and tweens. If you trusted us with your little ones we are grateful, and if you found yourself a retiree or dog mom in the midst of our chaos- we appreciate your patience as well!

Hey! We are off to the beach for a few days, but we wanted to drop into your inbox to let you know about some available appointments we have next week! But first...

Yeah. That number up there? Look, we are so grateful for you making appointments with us this summer because we know you are busy. And normally we would assume that those representing that number wouldn't be the sort to open one of these emails, but this time they are.

We have hearts as big as can be and we recognize there are some circumstances that are beyond control. But that number above represents the amount of no-shows and late cancellations in the first 18 days of this month. I mean, wow. And what is more? on two separate occasions three appointments no-showed on THE SAME DAY.

This just never happens. But it's kind of devastating. To quote one of our stylists yesterday, "I would cry but at this point I'm just dead inside."

We do have a flair for the dramatic, we artists.

In the past we'd make a big change because it feels good to do SOMETHING. Imagine filling a tub for a bath and it keeps leaking. Shove a sock in it! Something! How frustrating!

The thing is, we think our clients are the best in the world. We think this is a fluke. We think it's summer. We think that most of the time our guests make choices that they think are the best ones in the moment. We think life is a lot.

This doesn't mean that it's ok when people don't show up. We normally wouldn't say anything because no-shows and late cancels are really rare here! Maybe the only thing a person didn't consider is that she might not be the only one to not show up today. She might be one of three.

A late cancel is within 24 hours of the booked appointment. A no-call/no-show is when you know. You don't show. Or call to be like "hey. I'm not coming because life sucks."

So please, please, please. Give us as much notice as you can when life deals you lemons. Or a friend wants to take you to the beach. Or you didn't think about back to school fees or whatever. We adore you and want you to stay forever.

And we don't want to work nights at the Waffle House next door.
