So, how often should you get a massage?
My answer is: it depends.
If you’re dealing with chronic pain or discomfort, recovering from an injury, or putting your body through a lot of training, more frequent treatment makes sense.
If you’re looking for support with stress, sleep, recurring aches, or just generally feeling better in your body, monthly treatment may be a good fit.
These recommendations aren’t a prescription or a magic number. They’re based on how I think about massage: as part of an ongoing approach to taking care of your body, rather than something you only do when something hurts.
Ultimately, I believe regular massage works best when it’s part of a bigger picture: your body, your goals, your schedule, and your budget.
For those who do want to make massage a regular part of their self-care, I created monthly and twice-monthly memberships with a discount from my standard pricing.
If that sounds like something that would work for you, check out the link in my profile for membership details, availability, and pricing.
And yes, I did nerd out on the research behind the muscle recovery piece. 🤓 The research around massage is still evolving, and I’m not trying to pretend it says more than it does. But, they’re trying to capture the science behind the magic of massage. 😊

A good massage therapist is intentional about the details of your treatment. The techniques, the tools, the music, the table, the lighting… and yes, even the sheets.
So remember that the next time you’re crawling between the sheets at your massage appointment. 😉
And, jokes aside: Dawn dish soap gets makeup stains out. Easy-peasy. Never a problem.

My pricing model is just that: my approach to how I run my practice.
Some therapists and spas charge separately for certain tools, techniques, or enhancements. Others, like me, include them in the cost of the massage.
Neither approach needs to be right or wrong. Our pricing reflects our individual philosophies, training, and how we choose to structure our businesses.
For me, therapeutic massage is about having the flexibility to draw on my training and use the tools and techniques I believe will best support your treatment, without turning every option into an additional charge.
Different approaches, different business models. Find what works for you, both as a client and a therapist.

Why I don’t accept tips at my studio.
First, a disclaimer: I recognize that not every massage therapist has the luxury of making this decision. For the most part, our income comes from the disposable income of clients. When the economy is tight, our income can become even tighter. I also see the value in tips helping keep massage accessible while allowing clients to support our work a little extra.
Having said that, here’s why I don’t accept tips.
I’ve been the client sitting there wondering how much I’m supposed to tip, whether it’s enough, and what the expectation is. Honestly, I hate that worry. I don’t want to create it for someone else.
I’m a therapeutic bodyworker, and I view our work as collaborative, whether that’s one treatment or a plan unfolding over several months. My rates reflect my training, experience, and time.
Tipping can complicate that relationship. Is it about the quality of service, someone’s ability to pay, or cultural expectations? I’d like to remove those questions from our sessions.
My hope: transparent pricing allows you to feel comfortable receiving care, and leave without worrying about what you should add at the end.
Massage is kind of weird. (It’s also amazing! I highly recommend it. 😊)
It’s private. It’s therapeutic. It’s relaxing. There’s a level of trust and vulnerability that goes into the treatment.
Given this level of vulnerability, it’s important to be intentional about engagement between client and therapist. Here’s my top 4 things to avoid as a client:
1. Don’t watch the Massage Therapist. Personally, I watch my clients facial expressions to track how they are responding to the treatment. If you’re watching me, we’re making a lot of awkward eye contact. Please no. 👀
2. Don’t start un******ng before we leave the room. If we’re still in the room, we’re trying to talk you. Not the time to strip. Don’t worry - we’re not trying to cut into your massage time. 🫣
3. Don’t ask about draping. It’s our job to ensure you are draped to legal and ethical standards. We’re also looking to make you comfortable. Let us know if you’re cold or hot. We’ll add heat or air. Asking specifically about draping is an orange flag in our industry. 🔶
4. Don’t fish for our relationship status. 🙅♀️
Part 2 - Studio design: Savannah edition. This time Neliswa and the team were hours away. 😭 But, she was my virtual design-eye. ☺️ And all the other mishaps were character building. 😉

NGL - my reviews have me blushing. ☺️
We’re trained in massage… not interior design. 🫠 Thankfully, I had a tribe supporting me. 🥰 I’ve opened my third studio space now that I’ve moved to Savannah. This video features my first two studios in Michigan. Part 2 is Savannah. ☀️

Extending my gratitude to those who booked a treatment with me on Memorial Day!
As part of our commitment to honoring Memorial Day, a portion of each service fee from that day was donated to TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors). TAPS is an incredible organization that provides comfort, care, and resources to those grieving the loss of a military loved one. Learn more at www.taps.org.
Thank you once again for choosing my services and for joining me in giving back to such a meaningful cause.
