Mama K Breaking Bath
Just a single mom trying to build a small business, one bar of soap at a time...

Finished the quilt top for my coworker (who’s about to go on paternity leave for baby girl number 3). Pattern is a slightly modified version of “Mermaids”. True to my procrastination tendencies, I left myself 1 week to quilt it (nothing like a time crunch to motivate finishing a project 😅).

Made myself a new bag 😍I put my poor strawberry tote through its paces and it showed it, so it was time for a change. Made this from fabric I bought 20+ years ago which I still love (I believe my original intention was to make curtains, but never quite finished them). It’s funny, as someone whose dress is largely neutral colors and generally basic, my accessories are loud AF 😆

Finished piecing my “Singularity” quilt top (pattern by Jenn, available in The Modern Quilt Guild resource section- free to any member). Not gonna lie, it’s big and I’m not overly excited to baste it (always my least favorite part of quilt making). Looking forward to quilting it (optimistic that wrangling it through my domestic machine won’t be a Sisyphean task 😅)…

It doesn’t always happen, but when it does, it’s a thing of beauty 🖤🤍🩶

Started doing a few blocks for the scrappy bear paw swap I signed up for. Apparently I needed a break from the bazillion WIPs I have going, which include:
•the economy block quilt that probably only needs another 30 minutes of touch-ups before it’s finally done and ready to be washed, and yet I just can’t seem to get myself to pick it up again
• baste the “Falling Stars” quilt top
• baste the quilt I made for Alison Glass’s Kantha workshop
• finish piecing my “Singularity” quilt which I haven’t touched in months
•hand sewing my Tula Pink “Super Nova” EPP project (I did start this project with the intent to work on it sporadically/when I’m bored and that it will probably be months if not years before it’s done)

Finally finished the late 80s, early 90s Lisa Frank-inspired baby quilt of my inner kid’s dreams 💜🦄🌈
Unicorn mane fabric is all from “Fizz” by Giucy Giuce, the unicorn horns are from “speckled” and the black background and binding is “starry”, both from Ruby Star, and the sashing and backing fabric is from Tula Pink’s recent coral reef collection.

Today ’s Scrap-A-Palooza: where everyone brings a bunch of fabric scraps to the guild meeting, all the scraps get dumped on a table, the gloves come off and guild members dive into the pile to find new-to-them treasure. It was so fun - and I’m honestly not sure what part tickled me more, getting new-to me fabric scraps or watching people claim the scraps I lovingly brought to share 🥹
Anyhow, I got home and welcomed my new scraps with a hot iron and starch (ironed fabric helps me see it better and I’ve convinced myself that starching teeny tiny scraps keeps fraying to a minimum). Not gonna lie - I have at least 3 scrappy WIP (yellow and orange stars, a blues and white mishmash, and one that’s fairly multicolored). Of course, Sadie also has a “welcome home” fabric ritual, namely sitting directly on the stuff I’m actively trying to iron 🫠🤣🐈
