16 years licensed! 🎉

Today marks 16 years since I became a licensed massage therapist.

16 years of putting my hands on bodies. 16 years of learning what works, what doesn’t, when to dig deeper, when to back off, and when the thing that hurts isn’t actually the thing causing the problem.

Massage therapy can be a surprisingly short-lived career. Estimates suggest only around 15% of us are still practicing this far into our careers.

And I’m really proud to be one of them.

There is simply no substitute for experience. Continuing education matters. Anatomy matters. Technique matters. But so does spending thousands upon thousands of hours working with real human bodies. Seeing patterns repeat, encountering the unusual cases, learning to listen with your hands, and developing the judgment that only comes from doing this work over and over again.

My work today looks very different from my work 16 years ago. It’s more specific, more thoughtful, more confident, and much more mine.

I’m still learning. Still refining. Still fascinated by the human body. And after 16 years, I still genuinely love what I do.

Your friendly neighborhood massage therapist ran for 5 whole minutes today after not running for quite a few years. And I've lost 50 lbs in the last year. I've been getting bimonthly massages for the increased physical activity. It feels good! Feelin' *so* good, I registered for a 5K in October. I'll report back after and see just how good it feels then 😅😆

I sometimes get questions about this. Today I was asked, "In reading your website I get the impression that you are accepting all except straight males. Please tell me I am wrong."

First, my policy isn't about sexual orientation. All the orientations of all the people are good and valid, I say as a q***r person. Second, of course I see males. I see trans men. And I see cis men. The cis men that I work with are long-standing clients or they've been referred by trusted providers and clients.

I work alone in my home office, and safety is important to me. Thank you for your understanding and helping me provide a safe space for both myself and my clients.
