The secret to long-lasting waves actually starts before you ever pick up your curling iron.

Here’s how I prep + style my clients for soft, bouncy waves with hold that lasts:

1️⃣ Start with the right prep
On damp hair, I apply Shibui Everything Leave-In Conditioner to help detangle, and prep the hair for styling.

2️⃣ Add volume + hold at the root
Next, I use Shibui Thickening Volume Mist through the root area to give the hair extra volume, body, and a little added hold.

3️⃣ Mousse = your friend
I work a lightweight volumizing mousse through the hair. You want enough hold to support the style without making the hair feel heavy, stiff, or crunchy.

4️⃣ Blow-dry completely
I section the hair and blow-dry until it is 100% dry. Styling hair that still has moisture in it can keep your waves from setting properly.

5️⃣ Protect before you curl
Working from the back and moving up the head, I take sections and lightly mist each one with Shibui thermal protectant mist, holding the bottle about 6–8 inches away.

6️⃣ Create your waves
Using a wand, I create loose beachy waves section by section.

✨ And here’s the part people skip: LET. THEM. COOL.

Your curls need time to completely cool and set before you start touching or breaking them apart.

7️⃣ Finish + protect
Once everything is styled, I finish with a nourishing spray to help protect against humidity and lock in the look.

After the curls are completely cool, lightly run your fingers through them to soften and separate them into those effortless, lived-in waves.
