It’s official. 💚

My feature with Voyage Michigan is LIVE!

There’s something special about being given the opportunity to tell your story in your own words. Not just what you do, but how you got here, what shaped you, what you’ve learned along the way, and why the work continues to matter.

When you’re living it, you don’t always stop to look at everything that brought you to where you are. You’re working, building, adjusting, learning, grieving, growing, and continuing to move forward.

This interview gave me an opportunity to look back at some of those moments and recognize how much of my life has shaped the work I do today.

I talk about my journey as a beauty professional, building Goddess THairapy, becoming Detroit’s first Certified PsychoHairapist®, navigating loss and entrepreneurship, and why I believe the relationship between beauty and emotional wellness deserves a much larger conversation.

Seeing my story published feels a little surreal. 🥹

Thank you Voyage Michigan for giving me the space to share it.

And thank you to every person who has trusted my hands, sat in my chair, supported my business, shared my work, or simply believed in what I was building.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and even more excited about where this work is going. 💚🌿

It had been 3 years since the client received professional care so this service in totality was the beginning of a restoration. 🌿

During our consultation, we discussed every option available. We could leave the buildup in place, begin a series of restoration sessions, or cut the locs and start over. After weighing the risks and benefits together, we chose restoration.

Years of trapped product had become intertwined with the hair fibers, making it impossible to remove everything in one appointment without risking the integrity of the locs. Sometimes, the healthiest decision isn't the fastest one.

This isn't about criticizing another stylist. It's about understanding that our choices matter. The products we use, our maintenance routines, and the willingness to listen when a client has concerns all shape the long-term health of the crown.

I'm grateful this client trusted me with her journey, and I'm looking forward to documenting her progress through each Crown Restoration session.

🌿 Protecting the integrity of the crown will always come before chasing aesthetics.

A loc installation teaches patience, trust, and the beauty of honoring a journey you've never walked before. These locs were installed in 2021. Thats five years of consistency, care, and allowing the process to unfold. There was a time I had to hold her ponytail together. Today, her locs have more than enough length to do that on their own. I'm grateful for the privilege of caring for the crowns of people who trust my hands and appreciate the journey.🌿

Just admiring the work of these hands.
May they continue to care for crowns with the utmost care. 🌿

Next month will make it 9 years since I started these micro locs with extensions. This client has been with me since 2015. We've tried all the protective styles before coming to the decision of permanent locs. They are currently 39 inches long. She started with 6 inches of her own hair and added 6 inches of extensions so a total or 12 inches for the start of her journey. She trusted the process and has no regrets. 🌿
