Access Community Acupuncture LLC
Access Community Acupuncture offers affordable and accessible acupuncture to all.
Today I am snacking on roasted pecans and organic carrot juice — a little healthy fat, fiber, beta-carotene and seasonal nourishment between treatments. As the weather cools, it’s a great time to think about foods that help us feel nourished, grounded and ready for the season ahead.

On September 12, 2001, St. Vincent’s Hospital in lower Manhattan opened a free stress reduction clinic that included ear acupuncture three times a week. The Integrative Stress Management clinic (ISM) was created to support the community after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The clinic ran for 6 years and treatments were covered through a block grant from the American Red Cross.

One of the things I love about this time of year is gathering, what is still blooming and bringing a little bit of it inside.
In Chinese medicine, we talk a lot about living with the seasons rather than fighting against them.
As summer begins to give way to fall, it’s a good time to slow down notice what’s around us and make space for the transition.
Sometimes taking care of ourselves really can be that simple.
What’s bringing you a little joy right now?

The calendar may still say summer, but the signs are beginning to appear.
A little less daylight. Cooler mornings. Rain. The first changing leaves.
In Chinese medicine, we pay attention to these transitions because our bodies don’t exist separately from the world around us.
Sleep may change. Energy can shift. Allergies may appear. Digestion can feel different. Stress can increase as routines get busier.
You don’t have to wait until something feels really wrong to take care of yourself.
Sometimes an acupuncture treatment is simply a chance to stop, rest and help your body find its footing again.

Nourish Your Earth Element
Did you know that Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes Late Summer as its own season?
It’s associated with the Earth element and the Spleen and Stomach—making this a time to focus on nourishment, digestion and grounding.
And this is pretty much Late Summer in a pan.
Sweet potatoes
Root vegetables
Squash
Whole grains
Beans & legumes
Apples & pears
There is emphasis on warm, gently cooked and naturally sweet foods during this season.
It doesn’t have to be complicated.
A warm breakfast. Roasted vegetables. A bowl of rice. A pot of soup.
As the seasons begin to change, sometimes our bodies appreciate a little simplicity.
I did not just shove freshly baked bread in my mouth like a heathen that a patient just brought in…
Self care is also good for the care giver.
Treat yourself.
Maybe I’ll save you some.
We have appointments available until 630, today.

A Season of Transition…
Late August is a threshold.
Kids head back to school. Teachers return to classrooms. Family routines change.
The days get a little shorter, and after a brutally hot and dry summer, the return of the rain reminds us that the season is beginning to shift.
Our bodies notice transitions, too.
Changes in routine can affect sleep, digestion, energy and stress. You might notice headaches, muscle tension, anxiety, fatigue—or simply feel a little “off.”
Even positive change asks something of the body.
Acupuncture can give your body a place to slow down, settle and catch up as life moves into a new season.
