This , I’ve been thinking a lot about what I needed after my first pregnancy.

The moment the baby arrives, everyone’s attention shifts to the baby. But the person who just gave birth needs care too.

People would come over, hold the baby, and leave me with a stack of dishes. Everyone had a birth story to share. Very few people asked about mine.

I’ll never forget my friend Brit. She was in town for work and simply asked, "do you need to take a shower?" That question was the care I needed.

If someone you love has just had a baby, don’t feel like you need to be entertained. Bring a meal. Wash the dishes. Fold the laundry. Hold the baby so she can eat, shower, nap, or just breathe. Ask her how she’s doing. Ask about her birth. Listen.

Sometimes supporting a mother’s mental health looks less like having the right words and more like showing up in the right ways.

Stand for Something or Fall for Anything!!

Denver City Councilwoman Shontel Lewis will run for mayor next year rather than defend her council position, according to an affidavit filed with the city Thursday.

The race will pit Lewis against incumbent Mayor Mike Johnston, who was elected in 2023 and has said he intends to run for a second term.

Lewis, who was endorsed by the local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America when she ran for council, may be hoping to ride the momentum of recent DSA victories in Denver.
