Celebrating 10 Years of Ornata Residential — Looking Back

This Ornata sign was made when we were just getting started. We had a name, a small team, and a pretty big idea of the kind of company we wanted to build.

Over the last 10 years, the signage has changed and the team has grown alongside the projects we’ve been fortunate enough to take on. There have been plenty of long days, lessons learned, laughs along the way, and a lot of really great people who have been part of the story.

Looking at that first sign now compared to where we are today is pretty special.

We’ve come a long way in 10 years, and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who helped us get here.

This home was all about finding the right balance. We wanted it to feel fresh and updated without losing the warmth and personality that makes a home interesting and unique to this client.

Throughout the house, we mixed refined finishes with natural textures, old with new, and quieter spaces with moments that are just a little bit bold. The result is a home that feels sophisticated and considered, but also relaxed, personal and meant to be lived in.

We especially love the one-of-a-kind moments throughout this home; the statement lighting, beautiful natural stone, warm wood cabinetry, collected pieces and funky decor that reflects our client's personality.

It’s polished, but comfortable. Interesting, but still approachable. And most importantly, it feels like home.

10 Years of Ornata | House Tour No. 1 🏡

As we celebrate 10 years, we’re looking back at some of the homes and projects that have made the journey so memorable. We’re kicking things off with a favorite that truly has a little bit of everything.

This home was a collaboration with our friends at +L Design Studio

“Wallpaper, texture, layers and color…this project really has all of my favorite things. What I loved most was finding the balance between honoring the traditional character of this beautiful 1940s home while giving it a fresh personality that truly reflects the family who lives there.

We layered wallpaper, color, art and furnishings with reimagined pieces the clients already owned and loved, creating a home that feels collected over time rather than simply decorated. There are elegant moments throughout, but also plenty of playful—and sometimes cheeky—details that keep it from ever feeling too serious.

And with two little ones, every beautiful choice also needed to be livable. The result is a home that feels sophisticated and layered, but comfortable enough to truly live in and enjoy.”

Ten years ago today, I took a leap and started Ornata Residential.

I was fortunate to begin with clients who already trusted me with their homes. I knew I was a great builder, I had the desire to create something special, and my entrepreneurial management degree from TCU gave me the confidence to believe I could do it.

There was just one thing missing: a name.

Along the rabbit trail I went down searching for a meaningful name I came across the Ceratophrys ornate (an ornate horned frog), which immediately felt like a fitting nod to my TCU roots. The Latin word ornata means “richly adorned,” which perfectly represents the thoughtful design and excellent craftsmanship we strive to bring to every home we work on.

Today, we are incredibly grateful to celebrate 10 years of serving our clients and the Dallas community. Thank you to everyone who has trusted us, supported us, worked alongside us, and helped make Ornata what it is today.

Secondary bathrooms are one of those rooms in a home where small decisions matter more than people might expect. The proportions, the lighting, and the material choices all come together here in a way that feels just right in a smaller space.

In this kitchen, we paired warm wood tones with soft green cabinetry and a neutral stone to keep the palette grounded and inviting. The result is a space that feels elevated, but still warm and inviting. This is certainly a kitchen we would love to spend more time in.
