It started with a chicken. 🐓
Then came the eggs. 🥚
Then we did what any normal skincare company would do and turned them into a face serum. 😂
A few steps later, Golden Yolk is boxed up and headed to your doorstep. 💛
Farm → face is kind of our thing.
I’ve never really understood the saying “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” because honestly... I think you work MORE when you love what you do. 😂
We’ve worked late nights, weekends, vacations, sick days, early mornings... all of it. When it’s your own business there’s not really a clock-out time. There’s always something that needs to be done, something we’re trying to figure out, or another idea we want to run with.
But we really do love it. We love making the products. We love coming up with new ideas. We love seeing people use something we made and genuinely love it. And because we care so much about what we’re building, we probably work way more than we should sometimes. 😂
This business has become such a huge part of our family’s life. Our kids have watched us build it, helped us pack orders, come along for the crazy days and seen firsthand how much work goes into making a business grow.
It’s definitely work. A LOT of work. But it’s work we actually care about, and I think that makes all the difference.
I don’t think doing what you love means you never work a day in your life. I think it means you’re willing to work really freaking hard because you actually care about what you’re working for. 💛

I see creative inspiration pretty much everywhere.
Egg yolks became Golden Yolk Serum.
A sunset became Golden Hour.
Milk became Milk + Pearl Dust.
An emu became Pearl Serum.
A meadow became Meadow Serum.
And apparently cupcakes became body oil. 😂
Some inspiration comes from the farm, some from nature, some from Australia... and some from things I want to eat.

Butter Mom summer had her moment. Now it’s time for Butter Mom fall. 🍂
She likes things homemade, homegrown, farm-sourced and probably uses an unnecessary amount of butter. She romanticizes the simple things, loves an old-fashioned way of doing life, and will choose real ingredients over the convenient version pretty much every time.
This fall looks like chai tea lattes in the morning, pumpkin bread in the oven, cinnamon + butter + brown sugar on everything, and a pot of bone broth or soup simmering on the stove. She’s collecting eggs in the cooler mornings, filling the porch with heirloom pumpkins and mums, lighting beeswax candles when the sun goes down, and finally pulling the chunky sweaters and boots back out.
Weekends are for apple picking and fresh pies, herbs are hanging to dry, there’s fresh milk in the fridge and chickens wandering the yard. Evenings mean books at dusk, warm apple cider, bonfires when we can, and curling up under a quilt when we can’t. And yes, she’ll probably make a pumpkin-shaped sourdough loaf just because she can.
And of course, slathering herself in farm-sourced skincare through all of it.

We’ve always said skincare should look a little more like a farmer’s market than a chemistry lab.
Egg yolks. Milk. Honey. Calendula. Marshmallow root. Hibiscus. Olive oil. Jojoba. Green tea. Vanilla bean. Sea buckthorn. Turmeric.
These are the kinds of ingredients we love putting on our skin.
We spend so much time thinking about what we put into our bodies. We want real food, good fats, plants, herbs, minerals... all the things that actually nourish us. So why should skincare be any different?
When we’re making a product, we’re always looking back to the simple ingredients people have used for generations. Plants, herbs, oils, animal fats, flowers, roots, milk, honey, eggs... things that are actually grown and harvested.
Some come from farms and gardens. Some from fields, hives, and pastures... and some come straight from our own little farm.
That’s really the whole idea behind Urban Farm Apothecary.

The process vs. the result 📸
One thing about us... we put a LOT of work into our brand photography.
We don’t use AI photography. Every shoot is planned, styled, staged, and executed by us. We come up with the vision, gather all the props, find the location, haul everything around, make a giant mess, move things 100 times until they look right... all for that one perfect shot. 😂
It’s expensive. It’s time consuming. And it’s a ton of work.
But the end result is always worth it.
And of course, none of it would come together the same without our amazing photographer who somehow takes all the chaos we create behind the scenes and turns it into exactly what we had pictured in our heads. 😂 She’s incredibly talented and such a huge part of bringing our vision to life.
Most of our photos are taken right here on our farm, and I think that’s part of what makes them feel so much like us. Our photography has always been a huge part of bringing the vision we have for Urban Farm Collection to life, and it’s something we’re really proud of.
There’s a whole lot happening behind every pretty little picture you see on our feed. 😂

Egg yolks are finally getting the recognition they deserve in the nutrition world, but what many people don’t realize is that they’ve been treasured in skincare for centuries too.
Ancient cultures used egg masks long before modern skincare existed, recognizing their ability to soften, nourish, and promote glowing skin.
This fascination with egg yolks eventually became the inspiration behind our Golden Yolk and Golden Hour collections. We source our yolks from our own completely pastured hens here on the farm, and they are freeze-dried within 48 hours of being laid to preserve their beautiful nutrients.
