WE ARE OFFICIALLY OPEN!!!!!!

I say WE because Tina came back to Jo’s!!! YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT!!! And thank goodness because Jo’s was literally half of what it was, without her.

It’s been a long two months. We still have some finishing touches to take care of, a few pictures to hang, but we are so excited to officially open at our new location: 501 North Theard St. Suite 2.

Words cannot express the gratitude I have for all of the people who have who have helped me make this new place what it is. You all know a little piece of my heart was left permanently with our old ionic building. BUT all due to the help and support of many friends and clients, our new place is really feeling like home. Two months ago I never thought I’d say it, but never say never, right?!.......I’m kind of excited to be here.

As usual, Tina will be here in the mornings and I’ll be here at night. You can call either of us to schedule an appointment.

Again, thank you so much to all of our customers and loved ones for the patience and support. We can’t wait for y’all to come check us out!

I’ve put this post off until the very last second. almost hoping if i didn’t put it into text then it wouldn’t be reality. I cannot put it off any longer.
Jo’s barbershop will be moving. Our landlord has sold the building that i’ve rented for 12 years. As glad as i am to not be closing down, i’m grieving my old space like I have. If those walls could talk, y’all.....

12 years ago i was scared to death to become my own boss with my own place. It was Bill’s barbershop until he passed away. He was loved by the community and i’ve always felt like it was an honor to have been able to follow in his footsteps.

I painted the whole place when i moved in. My friend, Dave, made the coolest sign in the window for me. The shop was my baby until i actually became a real mom. In the first 5 years, I worked between 9-12 hours a day. it’s funny when you become your own boss you dream of the perfect hours you’ll be able to choose to work, but then you find yourself so dedicated that you end up working more than ever before. So many skipped lunches to fit in just one more haircut, so many late nights to squeeze one more cut in. So many characters from our community that have supported me and my barbershop.
i’ve watched children become adults (all while measuring and marking them on my door frame), singles get married and start families, i’ve seen people get sick and people get well. i feel like i’ve seen it all from my shop and i’ve loved every minute of it.

When we started our own family, the shop took a backseat for me, thank you tina and roseline for keeping it going!!! i really felt like I could have walked away from it, the moment I held thomas in my arms. But now that the boys are out of the baby stage, i’ve found myself appreciating my shop even more. As much as motherhood is the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me, every mom needs a break... How lucky have i been that my work is my awesome break???!!! My shop has been a place where i’m not mom, i’m just Jo.

I found out late spring that the shop was being sold. You’d think that the grief i’ve been feeling over it would have processed a bit by now, but the reality is, it feels like it hurts even more now.
That old shop was thru and thru, just me. So many times in my life, i’ve felt like an outcast that didn’t fit in....but i can safely say that in there i fit perfectly. My grief isn’t limited to my own selfishness. it extends for historical downtown covington. Although i’m excited that the old movie theater next door will be revamped into something new, I cannot help but feel so sad that this barbershop that holds so much history, will never have another barber in it.

As for us....Tina and I.....I will be moving down the street about 3 blocks away into the covington marketplace behind the courthouse house. Although my new place won’t have the charm of my old one, it’s as close to home as i can get for me and my clients. Tina will be moving to madisonville to revamp Jack’s barbershop where i promise you will find that same old barber charm. Since we are parting ways we are disconnecting the phone and will just be using our cell phones to communicate with clients. I will attach both of our numbers as well as change it on our page.

I just want to thank all of our customers over the years for being such awesome support to us. i’ve never taken for granted one minute of the last 12 and a half years that i’ve been blessed to have my shop at 326 North New Hampshire Street.

Thank you St. Paul’s Marching Band!!!!!! You made my month!!!!

02/15/2021

Want to thank the St. Paul High School marching band for marching thru downtown this past Saturday. Normally the shop would be closed and we’d be preparing to enjoy the Olympia parade, but since Mardi Gras was canceled we were still cutting hair.
To feel the bass thumping louder and louder in my heart as they approached was almost like hearing a ghost. Life has been overwhelming for all of us and I’ve been so distracted I haven’t really mourned Mardi Gras until their glorious sound faded down the street. It’s the first time I shed a tear hearing them play, but it made my day. Thank you.
