One of the biggest lies in the loc community is that more frequent retwists cause thinning.

No… poor technique, unhealthy scalp conditions, excessive tension, and an uneducated loctician do.

I have clients who come every 2–3 weeks with some of the thickest, healthiest locs because healthy hair thrives with consistent professional maintenance, scalp care, and proper education.

A dirty scalp isn’t a healthy scalp. Neglected hair doesn’t grow better. And if your locs keep looking worse the longer you’ve been with your stylist… it’s time to ask why.

Stop choosing a loctician based only on price or availability. Choose someone who understands loc health, scalp health, hair growth, thinning, and long-term hair preservation.

🚨 UNPOPULAR OPINION: Dirty hair is NOT a hair growth strategy.

Somebody had to say it.

If you’ve been avoiding shampoo because someone told you that “dirty locs grow faster”…

You’ve been lied to.

Let’s clear something up.

Your hair grows from your follicles, not from months of sweat, oil, product buildup, dead skin, and environmental debris sitting on your scalp.

A healthy scalp is where healthy hair begins.

If your scalp is inflamed, clogged, neglected, or struggling to breathe, why would you expect it to consistently produce its healthiest hair?

Now let’s talk about another myth…

“Retwists make your locs thin.”

No.

BAD retwists make your locs thin.

Poor technique.

Too much tension.

Retwisting damaged hair.

Ignoring weak areas.

Retwisting over inflammation.

That’s what leads to thinning.
