Power Training for Hockey Athletes🏒

Every shift is a series of explosions. First three strides. Cross-over into the corner. Absorb a hit and stay square. Rotate through the puck and let the shot go before the D closes.

None of that is built by skating harder. It’s built by teaching the nervous system to fire more motor units, faster, and to do it in every direction the game demands.

That’s what this block is doing:

→ Heavy, unilateral pressing builds force through a split stance — the same asymmetrical base you live in on the ice.

→ Multi-directional bounds train lateral force absorption and redirection. That’s edge work, that’s change of direction, that’s staying on your feet through contact.

→ Rotational throws teach the hips to transfer power up the chain into the stick.

→ Posterior chain and hip extension work builds the stride and armors the groin and hip flexors against the injuries that end seasons.

Strength is the foundation. Power is the expression. You need both — a strong athlete who can’t produce force quickly is just a slow athlete with good numbers in the weight room.

Train the tissue. Train the signal. Then go take somebody’s ice.

Wired to Win. 🏒

NEURO BEAST BASKETBALL HAS ARRIVED!

Most basketball training builds players who look good in drills.

We build players who read the game faster than it moves.

CONSTRAINT-LED APPROACH
We don’t script the answer. We shape the environment so the right read emerges under pressure — smaller space, live bodies, real consequence. The skill sticks because the brain solved it, not because it copied it.

QUIET EYE TRAINING
Elite shooters and passers hold their gaze longer and steadier before they act. It’s measurable. It’s trainable. Most gyms have never heard of it. We coach it every session.

COGNITIVE-MOTOR TRAINING
Decision and movement loaded at the same time — because the game never asks you to think *or* move. It asks for both, at speed, while tired, with the season on the line.

This is modern player development. Not more reps. The right reps, under the right stress, wiring the athlete you’re becoming.

Train from a settled identity.

Most athletes train to prove something. Every rep is an audition. Every miss is evidence. That’s not discipline — that’s fear wearing a jersey.

A settled athlete doesn’t train to become someone. They train because they already are.

Your nervous system knows the difference. Proving spikes threat. Settled builds capacity. One drains you. One compounds.

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” — Proverbs 23:7

The identity comes first. The work confirms it.

Settle it before you step in. đź§

“Your Perfect Practice Is Lying To You”

Nobody guards you at the elbow while you shoot 50 in a row.

Block practice — same spot, same rhythm, same rep — feels like mastery. Your percentage climbs. Your confidence climbs. Then the lights come on and the shot disappears.

Here’s why: when every rep is identical, the brain stops solving. It runs a copy. But a game never sends the same shot twice — different closeout, different footwork, different air in your lungs, different score on the board.

Variability shooting forces the brain to re-solve the problem every rep. Move the spot. Change the entry. Shoot tired. Shoot contested. Shoot off a bad pass.

You’ll miss more in the gym. That’s the point.

Struggle is the fee the brain charges for a shot that transfers. High interference in practice, high retention in the game. You’re not memorizing a shot — you’re building a system that can generate the right shot on demand, under conditions you’ve never seen.

Comfortable reps build a shooter.
Chaotic reps build a “gametime” shooter.

🎯 Wired to Win.

You can out-train everybody in the gym and still lose.

Not because you didn’t work. Because underneath the work, you were assuming you’d fall short.

Here’s what nobody tells you: your brain doesn’t build the reality you want. It builds the reality you’ve already accepted as true. Your RAS — that filter behind your eyes — goes out and collects evidence for whatever you assume about yourself. Assume you’re a closer, it finds the open shot. Assume you’re not ready, it finds every reason you’re right.

Mindset is what you “tell” yourself before the game.
Assumption is what you truly “believe” in your heart.

One is effort. The other is identity.

That’s why positive thinking cracks under pressure — you can’t hype your way past a self you don’t actually believe in. But when the assumption is set? You don’t have to force confidence. You just play like the person you’ve already decided you are.

The work matters. But the work is downstream.

Set the assumption first. Everything else follows.

Pressure doesn’t expose who you are. It exposes what you trained. 💪

Every rep rewires the machine that runs the rep.

Myelin wraps the circuits you fire most, which means skill isn’t something you’re born with. 🧠

It’s something you build, one focused rep at a time.

Here’s the part nobody tells your kid: the gap between the trigger and the reaction is trainable.

Pressure only chooses for you if you never trained the pause.

And the breath?

That’s the remote control to the whole nervous system. 🎮

One long exhale and you’re out of panic and back in command.

You were never “just talented” or “just not.”

You were always being wired.

Decide who you are. Then go build the athlete to match.

— Save this. Send it to the athlete who needs it. 🤝

Commitment is the ultimate excuse killer.

Motivation lies. It shows up on the good days and vanishes when things get hard. Commitment doesn’t care how you feel.

You don’t find time to get better — you decide. And once you’ve decided “I’m the athlete who shows up”, the excuses lose their power.

Proverbs 23:7 — *as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.*

Stop negotiating with yourself. Start showing up. 🦾

The best defenders don’t react faster. They see sooner.

THE QUIET EYE

The best defenders in volleyball aren’t faster. Their eyes are quieter. Locked. Still. Fixed on the target a fraction longer before the body moves — and that fraction is the whole game.

That’s Quiet Eye. A longer, steadier final fixation right before action. The research is clear: elite athletes hold it. Everyone else’s eyes are darting, scanning, second-guessing.

When you train it, the dig stops being a decision. The platform stops being a thought. You stop reacting to the ball and start *seeing* it early.

Train the eyes. The feet follow.

Your confidence is your responsibility.

Here’s the trap nobody warns you about: the moment you let someone give you your confidence, you’ve handed them the power to take it away.

Think about it.

If the coach’s praise is what makes you feel unstoppable, then the coach’s silence can break you.

If the crowd’s energy is your fuel, what happens on the road, in a dead gym, when nobody’s chanting your name?

If one bad comment can gut you, you’ve made your identity a hostage.

That’s the danger of outsourcing your confidence — you don’t just become dependent, you become controllable.

Validation is a leash.

The people who learn they can build you up also learn they can shrink you. And some of them will use it on purpose.

Withhold approval to keep you working for scraps.

Dangle it to keep you in line. That’s not coaching. That’s control dressed up as motivation.

The Assumption Athlete pulls the source back inside.

Your certainty comes from who you’ve decided to be — not from applause, not from playing time, not from anyone’s approval.

Proverbs 23:7: as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.

Not as the crowd thinketh.

Not as the coach thinketh.

You.

When your confidence is self-generated, you become ungovernable in the best way.

Nobody can give it. Nobody can take it.

You walk in already sure.

That’s freedom.

That’s responsibility.

Own it.
