We saw a conversation in our Facebook group recently where a maker's customer purchased a product because she expected it to smell a certain way based off of the scent notes provided. Once she received it, it was different than what she expected, and she was disappointed.

This is why it's SO important to remember that scent names can create expectations that the actual fragrance doesn't match.

“Vanilla” doesn't always mean cupcake-sweet. “Citrus” doesn't always mean bright and juicy. And “cologne” or “perfume” can mean something completely different depending on the person smelling it.

That's why providing scent categories on your website and listings with clear scent descriptions matter so much.

Don't just rely on the fragrance name to describe your product. Give your customers enough information to understand the scent profile before they buy.

It can save you a whole lot of “this isn't what I expected” conversations later, and it can also help you earn a lot more purchases when customers know exactly what they can expect from a scent.
