Here you see amazing footage of the baker slamming the enormous trays of cakes just out of the oven onto the counter. With the fans going it was impossible to hear my voiceover, so they offered to turn off the fans for a few minutes which left the kitchen blazing hot! New Kam Hing is more than the best place for sponge cake. It’s a multi-generational family business that plays an important role in the Chinatown community. At the start of the pandemic, Liz and her husband saw that many of their customers were not wearing masks, so they spent $2,000 of their personal savings to buy masks. The people who make @wishcareusa hand sanitizer heard about their efforts to protect the community and donated over $280,000 worth of hand sanitizer for Liz to distribute throughout Chinatown. 94% of the businesses in Chinatown are mom-and-pops. When locals have a hard time affording basic necessities, business owners like Liz Yee look after the community. It’s one of the many reasons I love Chinatown.
