Oncology Skin Specialist was one of the first courses I saw. At first I was confused because I didn’t understand what that would have to do with an esthetician who doesn’t have any type of medical license. I knew what cancer was, I knew what it was like to have a loved one diagnosed. Even worse I have seen the side effects of cancer, the harsh treatments, and all it can take from a person.

I looked into it and immediately realized I was interested. The course is detailed in cancer, treatments, side effects, drug interactions, skincare, wellness, and more. I am in no way, shape, or form claiming that I know all that an oncologist would know. I am simply educating myself in order to help someone who is going through these things, for them to be comfortable while receiving a facial and being able to relax when they are in my care.

I want my spa room to be a safe space… no machines, no loud noises, no confinement, no painful procedures. An escape from all of that. Comforting, inviting, relaxing, and giving people a sense of normalcy when nothing around them seems normal.

I am aware that this may not be my most popular facial and that is perfectly fine with me. If I could be a safe, calming place for just one person, in my whole career, it will be worth it.
