When Donald Hinton walked out of federal prison, he had no car, no job, and no guaranteed future. But he had something important β€” $10,000 he saved through the UNICOR prison work program and the experience of running a small store while incarcerated.

Donald grew up in Alton, Illinois. His father was sent to prison when Donald was only 5 years old. His mother struggled to raise him, and he and his sister were eventually cared for by their grandmother.

While in prison, Donald experienced a moment that changed everything. His young son came to visit him β€” a moment that reminded Donald of when he once visited his own father behind bars.

Donald said, β€œI broke down and cried. I knew if I didn’t change, my son would end up right here too.”

That day, Donald made a promise that the cycle of prison in his family would end with him.

Within one year of his release, Donald used his $10,000 savings to buy a duplex. He lived in one unit, rented the other, and dedicated himself to learning everything he could about real estate.

Through hard work, discipline, and determination, Donald built a new life. Today, he owns 19 homes and helps formerly incarcerated people learn how to invest in real estate through his organization, From Prison to Properties.

We’re sharing Donald’s story on Stay Inspired to highlight his journey and show that change is possible. His story proves that a person’s past does not have to define their future.

With focus, perseverance, and a commitment to doing better, Donald transformed his life and created a new future for his family.

Philanthropist Melinda French Gates believes that great wealth comes with a responsibility to help others. Through her organization, Pivotal Ventures, she has committed $2 billion to support women and families and create opportunities for communities around the world.

She recently invested $215 million into menopause care and estrogen research β€” an area that has been overlooked and underfunded for decades.

Many families are only one unexpected emergency away from financial hardship. A medical bill, losing a job, or an unexpected expense can completely change a family’s future. In an interview with Fortune, Melinda shared that billionaires have benefited from society’s foundations, including roads, education, and healthcare.

She said, β€œTo whom much is given, much is expected.”

Melinda also signed the Giving Pledge, promising to donate the majority of her fortune to charitable causes. She explained:

β€œI recognize the absurdity of so much wealth being concentrated in the hands of one person. And I believe the only responsible thing to do with a fortune this size is give it away.”

Her mission continues to focus on creating a better future by investing in people, supporting families, and helping solve problems that have been ignored for too long.

Miracle Keith, her 3-year-old daughter Amiri, and their friend Morgan Christie survived a devastating apartment fire in Conway, South Carolina, on May 30, 2026.

The fire started around 4:00 a.m., and in a moment of unimaginable courage, Miracle walked through the flames to save her young daughter. All three were rushed to the Burn ICU in Augusta, Georgia, where they began their recovery.

Miracle has now been moved out of the ICU, and her daughter Amiri has returned home and is doing better. We shared their story on Stay Inspired to help bring more attention and support to their journey.

Since then, an incredible wave of prayers, kindness, and support has come from people across the country. Through two GoFundMe campaigns created for the families, the community has raised more than $77,000 to help with medical expenses and immediate needs.

Miracle’s parents, Nina Keith and Kenya Keith Sr., shared:

β€œNobody but God could have given her the strength to keep fighting. And that precious little girl of hers is a fighter too. They both have a road to recovery ahead, but we trust God completely through every step of this journey.”

They also asked everyone to continue praying for Morgan Christie, who remains in critical condition.

The journey ahead is still difficult, but the strength, love, and support surrounding these families continue to remind everyone that hope can shine even during the darkest moments.
