SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE: SHELTERS, STORM DAMAGE & COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE 🚨
If you or someone you know has been impacted by the August 11 severe weather, resources are available to help our community recover.
🏠 SHELTER LOCATIONS
The following shelters are currently open for anyone impacted by the severe weather:
📍 Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church – Joliet
205 E. Jackson St., Joliet
📍 Rauner Center – American Red Cross of Illinois Headquarters
2200 W. Harrison St., Chicago
Shelters provide:
• A safe place to stay
• Meals and snacks
• Charging stations
• Information, Red Cross assistance and community resources
📞 Need assistance? Call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
📲 2-1-1 IS HERE TO HELP
Residents can call 2-1-1 for assistance with unmet needs following the storm, including food, shelter and tree cleanup assistance.
🌳 TREE CLEANUP ASSISTANCE
Volunteer chainsaw crews from Christian Aid Ministries Rapid Response Services, Illinois Baptists and IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service) are currently planning to remain in the area through September.
If you need assistance with fallen trees:
1️⃣ Call 2-1-1 and request tree cleanup assistance.
2️⃣ Complete the Will County Storm Damage Survey at:
Be sure to include your name, address, email address and phone number.
3️⃣ Watch for a text message from 2-1-1 containing a waiver. The waiver must be signed before assistance can be provided.
4️⃣ A volunteer cleanup administrator will follow up directly with residents requesting assistance.
Please note that assistance is based on volunteer availability and the type of work needed.
🌩️ DID YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS RECEIVE DAMAGE?
Even if you have already reported damage to your insurance company, please complete the Will County Storm Damage Survey at www.willcountyema.org/storm. This helps local officials document the extent of storm damage across Will County and identify community needs.
The survey is not an application for financial assistance and does not replace contacting your insurance company.
❤️ Please continue to look out for your neighbors and those who may need extra help as our community recovers. Sharing this information could help connect someone with the resources they need. See less
