I’ll be there Saturday, August 8th with an assortment of handcrafted Northlake Naturals products—including two of my personal summertime favorites: Plantain Salve & Pine Resin Salve. 🌱🌲

These are the kinds of products I love making most—simple, traditional remedies made from plants growing right around us.

🌱 Plantain Salve

Broadleaf plantain is that humble little plant you’ve probably walked past a thousand times—or maybe even tried to get rid of in your lawn!

I grow mine organically right in my own yard, then harvest and dehydrate the leaves before slowly infusing them into oil and turning them into a soothing herbal salve.

Plantain has traditionally been used to soothe itchy, irritated skin, which makes this little tin one of my summertime staples after mosquito bites, bug bites, and all the other little skin irritations that come with spending time outdoors.

If the mosquitoes LOVE you as much as they love me… you’ll understand why I keep this one nearby. 🦟😂

🌲 Pine Resin Salve

This one might be even more special to me because it truly starts with the trees around my home.

Pine resin is part of a tree’s natural defense system. When a branch breaks or the tree is injured, that beautiful sticky resin flows over the damaged area.

I carefully collect only the excess resin that has already seeped from my own trees and locally foraged sources. Then I combine it with olive oil and beeswax from my own beehives to create a rich, woodsy balm.

Traditionally, pine resin salves have been used on dry, rough or weather-beaten skin and as an outdoor balm for minor scrapes and abrasions. I especially love tossing a tin into my bag when I’m hiking, camping, gardening, or spending a day in the woods. 🌲🥾

There’s something pretty incredible about making useful products from the plants, trees, and bees right here in our own community. 💚

We are loving this time of year. This July has not been as dry as they have been previously so all the flowers are still going strong. That makes the bees and the pollinators very happy! We try to grow a bunch of flowers for our honey bees and the rest of the native pollinators. One of the plants that attracts THE MOST pollinators is Joe Pye W**d. If you want pollinators, that's your best choice in native plant in my opinion.
