What a journey the past 11 years has been. When I began my degree program in therapeutic massage in September of 2015, I wasn’t sure I was in the right program. My interests resided in sensory therapy and working with children on the autism spectrum.
However, at the time, a degree in massage came the closest to what I planned to do.
By the time I graduated in 2017, I had changed my direction to lymphatic work and trigger point therapy. In 2018 I was passionate about hand, wrist & forearm and prenatal massage. But not just any prenatal massage, it had to address issues that women were coming in with. I wouldn’t find education that satisfied my criteria until 2023 when I entered the world of pelvic floor massage therapy. And that was key to finding visceral and neural manipulation that changed everything!
The scope of practice for massage therapy extends far beyond general public perception and is largely unrecognized. Public education is vital to understanding the variations of massage, and what you are getting when booking with a massage therapist. Knowing the difference between “certificate of attendance”, “certificate of completion” and “certification” is vital. Misrepresentation is a common occurrence, and not always deliberate. 🌟The more you know🌟

Massage therapy isn’t a 3 month program and your done. It’s not a 7 month certificate and you’re done. It’s not a 2-year degree program and you’re done.
At least, it shouldn’t be.
I’m just about ready to begin my tenth year and education is still something I continually keep a priority.
