Freshly loosed flexi rod curls headed out for a quick day date with my babe.. If y'all ever notice, I don't touch my edges whenever I style my hair, no matter the style. I don't place a lot of tension on them with tight styles. I don't slick them down with gel or edge control. I only moisturize and seal/lock the moisture in with oil or butter. If you're struggling with thinning or lost edges, here are some hair practices that could have contributed.
1. Tight Hairstyles:
Constant tension from tight braids, high ponytails, slick buns, and weaves can pull the hair out at the root and permanently damage follicles
2. Wig and Lace front Adhesive:
The glue and adhesives used to secure wigs, along with the friction from removing them, can easily tear out fragile baby hairs.
3. Chemical Damage:
Frequent use of relaxers or hair dyes at the hairline breaks down the protein structure of fine hairs, making them highly vulnerable to snapping
4. Styling Products and Friction:
Edge controls with high alcohol content or harsh holding polymers dry out the hair. Pair that with daily friction from hats or tight scarves, and the hair simply breaks off.
5. Hormonal Changes and Health:
Postpartum hormonal shifts, menopause, thyroid imbalances, and chronic stress can all trigger hair shedding around the temples
