Strong hips = a strong life 💛
These have been some exercises on my mind recently! As a physical therapist, I find myself training hip strength and control for low back issues, hip stuff, knee pain, ankle issues, etc.
Let me know which one is your favorite :)

Over the years I’ve had many people reach out saying I played some part in the journey of starting their business. That’s one of the beauties of the internet! We really get to walk (or scroll) alongside other motivated humans as they find their way.
This post is for you 😊
Unfortunately the getting up early trick to get your stuff done before the baby DOES work, it’s just hard for me as a natural night owl 🦉 but I’m working on it!
Slowly but surely getting there!

As a physical therapist, I can honestly say that when I find a hip mobility deficit in a client, I’m rarely sending them home with a static stretch. Although a classic figure 4 feels GREAT… I find that challenging the joint with load (either body weight or added weight) can improve mobility over time and create more long lasting results.
honorable mention that didn’t make the cut: a squat!!!

When I graduated physical therapy school, I assumed life would unfold in a predictable manner over the next decade. I would work at a big company, become clinic manager, go on fun vacations, and hopefully have a few kids.
Sitting here 4+ years later I’m fascinated at how my career has shapeshifted into something wildly different than originally planned.
Much of the change can be attributed to saying “yes” and leaning in to the feeling of uncertainty. Sort of like when someone asks you to be the keynote speaker at an event on the other side of the country even though you’ve historically been petrified of public speaking.
Thankful to be able to embrace this next “yes” with APTA Washington ❤️
I honestly can’t remember the last time I was really injured.
This is not my sob story but rather a great way to document my way back to full activity after a very common injury!
Note: I spent the first 3 days gently moving, trying to bear weight, and resting as needed. Today (day 4) was the first day I got to any assessment and exercise because 1. I was busy and 2. I was resting!
Current goals: walk without a limp, improve single leg balance, gradually restore full ankle ROM
Stay tuned for part 2 ✌🏼

A strong foot = a stable base
The longer I’m out practicing in the clinical world of physical therapy, the more I realize how important it is to have a strong (and mobile) foot to be able to properly transmit load, propel us forward, and create a stable base with which to lift upon.
These are some of my favorite lower leg and foot exercises I have been using right now!
