But high caffeine intake, especially from heavily sweetened energy drinks or multiple caffeinated drinks throughout the day, may indirectly contribute to issues for some people.

But here’s something a lot of people don’t realize: the hair typing system isn’t the only way and it’s not how we were taught to classify hair in cosmetology school.

In cosmetology, we learn the basic texture categories as straight, wavy, curly, and coily, while also looking at things like density, strand thickness, porosity, elasticity, and the hair’s overall condition.

And honestly? That matters WAY more when it comes to actually taking care of your hair.

Because two people can both call themselves “4A” and have completely different:
-densities
-strand thicknesses
-porosities
-curl patterns
-moisture needs
-styling needs

Your hair is more complex than a number + letter.

So instead of asking, “What’s your hair type?”
Maybe we should start asking:

“What does YOUR hair need?”

And before somebody comes for me this isn’t me saying the 3A–4C system doesn’t exist. It absolutely does. I’m saying it isn’t the only framework for understanding hair, and a label doesn’t tell the whole story.
