Today is National Relaxation Day – August 15

Slow down and indulge in some well deserved self care. Whether it’s a full spa day, a calming soak, or simply enjoying the peaceful moments in between, make time to recharge your mind, body, and spirit.

Because life’s too short not to pamper yourself.

National Shapewear Day is celebrated annually on August 10th, highlighting body confidence and inclusive fashion. For Black women, the modern shapewear market has evolved significantly thanks to brands prioritizing deep, rich n**e tones and diverse body types.

Today is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day – the approximate day a Black woman must work into the new year to earn what a white non Hispanic man earned at the end of the previous year. This means it would take a Black woman, working full time, approximately eight extra months to earn what the average white non-Hispanic man earns in one year. Based on American Community Survey (ACS) Census data, the 2021 wage gap for Black women compared to non-Hispanic white men is 63 cents.
Honoring our purpose, we will continue to advocate for Black Women’s Equal Pay Day to ensure Black women in our community and beyond can live the life they envision for themselves and their families.

Over the next little while, my posting may be a bit quieter than usual as my family takes time to be together and focus on what matters most. We've had several people ask how they can help.

Mental health has always been important to us, and we know grief doesn't end after the first few days. If you think of us in the weeks or months ahead, please don't hesitate to reach out. A simple "How are you doing?" or a prayer can mean more than you know.

Since we won't be having services, we're simply taking things one day at a time. Your prayers mean the most to us. If anyone is looking for a practical way to help, a meal or a restaurant gift card would be greatly appreciated, as it would give us a little break from cooking while we focus on family.

Thank you for thinking of us and for walking alongside our family during this time.🖤

On June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, news reached Galveston, TX that the enslaved were now free. Today we celebrate the culture and achievement of African Americans. Today we celebrate freedom!

“If the cruelties of slavery could not stop us, the opposition we now face surely will fail..”-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We believe that we each have the right to love who we love, all year round, not just in June. Pride Month serves as a reminder that love knows no boundaries and that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Join us as we continue to lean in, as we continue to actively listen and as we continue to learn. Stand with us as we use this month to consistently educate ourselves, become better allies and celebrate the resilience and brilliance of the LGBTQIA+ community.
