Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with the 3rd and 4th graders of Jack and Jill Tucson about the history of Black hair, my career journey, and the CROWN Act.

My biggest takeaway was a reminder to myself as a parent: our children listen and absorb more than we realize. The way we speak about ourselves, including our hair can shape how they see themselves.

Our words can nurture confidence or plant insecurities. Let’s be intentional about helping our children appreciate their hair, their identity, and who they are.

A week and a day ago I was sitting in the Goldman Sach Tower learning from professors and women in business and taking in all the things that will help propel me in business.

This program is rigorous, stretching and strengthening me in ways that feel good and not so good but growth doesn’t come out of complacency so I’m pushing through what feels uncomfortable and taking the lessons I’m learning from it.

Just a week ago I went from being certified as a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist in Atlanta to New York/New Jersey to level up my business with Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women Black in Business. From a child I’ve always wanted to be a hairstylist and now that I’ve matured in that career it’s time to expand with Trichology and Medical Wigs. This program is exactly what I need to 5x my business. I’m thankful for the direction God is guiding through. This program IS NOT EASY but I believe I am capable of doing anything God has called me to. Day 1 was informative and fun. 🤩

Whew! Goldman Sachs Black in Business Program is a 10/10 and we’re on week 1 wrapping up from orientation. In just 3 short days I have totally transformed the way I think and am operating as the Founder of The Hair Mayven & Wellness. If it’s one thing that I will keep at the top of my mind is their slogan. The time is NOW! Seize it. I’m excited about these next 12 weeks and looking forward to growing and stretching myself as I walk into what it means to become the CEO of my company.

Of course, I had to make a few stops along the way—Publix (because if you know, you know 😂), Ponce City Market, and Sunday service at 28:19 before heading into certification day.

When I arrived for class, I was greeted by a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and something about seeing those words that morning set the tone for the entire day.

Then it was time to learn.

I spent the day studying cranial prostheses, exploring different bases and medical wig options, learning alongside other professionals, and gaining a deeper understanding of how I can support individuals experiencing hair loss beyond the work I already do in trichology.

And I’m officially a Certified Cranial Prosthesis Specialist. 🎓✨

For me, this isn’t simply about wigs.

It’s about being able to support someone whose hair loss may be limited/past the stage of recovery—or who needs a beautiful, realistic solution while we’re still investigating what’s happening underneath.

Because sometimes hair restoration means helping the hair grow.

And sometimes it means helping someone feel like themselves again. 🤎
