⚠️ STOP using toilet bowl cleaner on anything except toilets! ⚠️

We’ve all seen the viral videos: people coating shower glass, grout, tubs, sinks, and stainless steel in toilet bowl cleaner because it makes for a satisfying reel. As a professional, seeing this trend makes me cringe!

Toilet bowl cleaner is specifically formulated to interact with standing water inside porcelain bowls. Using it on other home surfaces is a recipe for permanent damage and severe safety risks.

💥 What it does to surfaces:
Grout & Tile: Hydrochloric acid etches away grout, making it porous, crumbly, and prone to mold growth underneath.

Stainless Steel & Fixtures: Strips the protective coating instantly, causing permanent blackening, pitting, and rusting.

Acrylic & Fiberglass Tubs: Scratches, dulls, and melts protective gel coats, leaving permanent stains.

Natural Stone (Granite, Marble, Quartz): Acid instantly causes chemical burns and dull etching marks that cannot be washed off.

☣️ The Health & Safety Hazards:
Toxic Gas Risk: If toilet bowl cleaner (acid-based) touches even a tiny trace of bleach or chlorinating spray in a shower, it releases toxic chlorine gas, which can cause lung damage or severe poisoning.

Skin & Eye Burns: Acid formulas cause severe chemical burns if splashed during scrubbing.

Indoor Air Quality: The fumes concentrated in an enclosed shower or bathroom are dangerous to inhale for you, your kids, and your pets.

✨ What to use instead:
Hard Water & Soap Scum: Use a dedicated mineral remover, or mild citric acid/vinegar solutions designed for shower surfaces.

Grout Cleaning: Stick to an alkaline grout cleaner or heavy-duty oxygen bleach with a stiff brush.

Polished Chrome & Fixtures: Mild dish soap, isopropyl alcohol mixtures, or gentle non-abrasive cleaners.

Let’s protect our clients' homes, our own homes, and our lungs! Always check the label and keep toilet bowl cleaner where it belongs—in the bowl. 🚽

Feel free to share this to save someone’s bathroom fixtures!
