Tranquility By Heather T
Therapeutic massage services available in the DMV
I specialize in chronic pain management.
Lately, I’ve been moving through a lot of changes—some internal, some external, and some I’m still learning how to understand.
Today, I had the opportunity to attend a beautiful healing experience that included seated breathwork, guided meditation and mindfulness, sound healing, and Reiki energy with my Reiki Master, Janice B, and her wonderful friends.
Sometimes the universe knows exactly what we need before we’re able to put it into words ourselves. I’m so grateful that it placed me in Janice’s care at a time when I truly needed it.
There was something incredibly powerful about being able to simply sit, breathe, receive, release, and be present without needing to fix or figure anything out.
It was definitely a healing experience, and a reminder that those of us who spend so much of our lives caring for and holding space for others need spaces where we can be cared for, too.
I walked away feeling lighter, grounded, and grateful.
Thank you, Janice, for being part of my journey and for creating a space where healing could happen.

Results through consistency.
One session can introduce someone to my work.
But some of the feedback I appreciate most comes from clients who continue coming back and notice how their body responds over time.
Therapeutic bodywork isn't always about chasing an immediate dramatic change.
Sometimes it's noticing that an area isn't as tight as it used to be.
That a movement feels easier.
That you're becoming more aware of your body.
Or that you're finally making your own recovery and maintenance a priority.
Thank you to every client who trusts me enough to return, recommends me to someone they care about, or shares their experience in a review.
I appreciate every one of you.

You don't have to be a professional athlete to need a sports massage.
Sports massage isn't only for professional athletes.
You might be a runner.
You might lift weights.
You might play basketball on the weekends.
You might work a physically demanding job.
Or maybe you're simply someone who wants your body to move and function better.
Therapeutic and sports-focused massage can be used as part of your recovery routine to address muscle tension, restrictions, soreness, and mobility.
My work incorporates techniques including myofascial release and trigger point therapy based on what your body needs.
You don't need a jersey, a medal, or a personal record to take your recovery seriously.
Your body does a lot for you. Take care of it.

Try the "Wall Angel" stretch
If you spend a lot of your day sitting, driving, or working with your arms in front of you, try this gentle upper-body movement.
Stand with your back against a wall and your feet slightly away from it.
Bring your arms up into a comfortable “goalpost” position.
Keeping the movement slow, gently slide your arms upward, then bring them back down.
Repeat 5–8 times.
Don’t force your hands, elbows, or shoulders against the wall. Work within the range that feels comfortable for your body.
Think controlled movement rather than a big stretch.
Pay attention to where you feel tightness and whether the movement becomes easier after a few repetitions.
Small mobility exercises can tell you a lot about what your body has been holding onto.

Sometimes people come into your life through your work, and you never expect the connection that will grow from it.
I started visiting Shilpa for mobile massage during the pandemic. At the time, she was simply a new client. I had no idea that years later, I would feel so connected to not only her, but her entire family.
I’ve had the privilege of watching Mekhi and Leilani grow, getting to know her husband Derek, and being welcomed into their home and their lives. Shilpa includes me in so many of their family celebrations, and that means more to me than I can really put into words.
These are the relationships that remind me that what I do is about so much more than massage.
When you work closely with someone over the years, you learn about their lives, celebrate their milestones, watch their children grow, share conversations, laugh together, and genuinely begin to care about one another.
Some clients stay clients.
And some become family.
Shilpa, Derek, Mekhi and Leilani, thank you for welcoming me into your world and allowing me to be part of so many special moments. I’m incredibly grateful that this career brought our paths together.
The connections I’ve built through Tranquility by Heather are something I’ll carry with me for a very long time.

Give yourself 10 minutes.
When was the last time you sat somewhere without doing anything else?
No scrolling.
No television.
No answering messages.
No trying to accomplish something.
Give yourself ten quiet minutes today.
Sit outside, drink your coffee without your phone, close your eyes, listen to music, or simply sit somewhere comfortable.
You don't have to turn every free moment into a productive one.
Sometimes your nervous system needs a little less input.

Ten minutes may not change everything happening around you, but it can give you a small space in the day that belongs entirely to you.

Your body is more than the spot that hurts.
“My lower back hurts, so why are you working somewhere else?”
It’s a fair question.
The human body doesn’t function as a collection of completely separate parts. Areas of tightness and restriction elsewhere in the body can sometimes influence how you move and where you experience discomfort.
That’s why my sessions aren’t simply about rubbing the place that hurts.
I pay attention to your movement, tissue restrictions, trigger points, and what I’m feeling underneath my hands.
Sometimes the area demanding your attention isn’t the only area that needs attention.
That’s the difference between simply getting a massage and receiving therapeutic bodywork with intention.

The Doorway Lat Stretch
Feeling tight through your sides, upper back, or underneath your arms?
Try this simple stretch.
Stand in an open doorway and reach your right hand overhead to hold the doorframe. Slowly shift your hips toward the right while allowing your upper body to lean slightly to the left.
You should feel a gentle stretch from underneath your arm down the side of your torso.
Hold for 20–30 seconds while taking slow breaths, then switch sides.
Keep the movement comfortable and never force the stretch.
This can feel especially good after sitting for long periods, upper-body workouts, or spending hours with your arms in front of you.
Your body doesn’t always need a complicated routine. Sometimes it just needs a few minutes of intentional movement.

Make Time for yourself.
Before another busy week begins, look at your calendar and ask yourself:
“Where am I on this list?”
We make appointments for work, errands, family responsibilities, and everything everyone else needs. Sometimes our own care gets whatever time is left over.
This week, make an appointment with yourself too.
If your body has been feeling tight, overworked, sore, or simply in need of attention, I have therapeutic massage appointments available.
Check my website for current availability and online scheduling.

There’s advertising, and then there’s hearing directly from someone who has experienced my work.
Every client comes to me with a different body, different concerns, and a different story. That's one of the reasons I value client feedback so much.
When someone tells me they're moving better, experiencing less discomfort, or simply feeling more comfortable in their body after our work together, it reminds me why I chose this career.
Thank you to every person who has trusted me, referred someone to me, returned for another session, or taken a few minutes to leave a review.
