We want skincare to add something beneficial to the skin without unnecessarily adding things that can strip the barrier, trigger inflammation, or increase the risk of sensitization.
Three ingredients we’re cautious about in skincare are:
Denatured alcohol (Alcohol Denat., SD Alcohol)
It strips lipids from the skin which translates to dryness, tightness, irritation, and barrier disruption.
High-concentration fragrance/parfum
There is ssentially no skin-health benefit while adding the risk to irritate the skin causing contact dermatitis. This matters even more for compromised, eczema-prone, rosacea-prone, or post-procedure skin.
Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives—such as DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, and quaternium-15
This is a well-established contact allergen, so these preservatives can cause sensitization or allergic contact dermatitis in susceptible people.
The important nuance is dose + formulation + individual skin > simply labeling an ingredient “toxic.” A well-formulated product containing a small amount of alcohol or fragrance isn’t automatically harmful.
When choosing skincare for skin longevity, barrier health and inflammation control, the goal is simple:
✨ Add ingredients that benefit the skin.
✨ Minimize ingredients that unnecessarily strip, irritate or sensitize it.

Regenerative vs Biostimulatory
In aesthetic medicine, these terms often get used loosely or interchangeably, but there’s a real distinction worth knowing.
Biostimulatory agents work by provoking a controlled inflammatory or foreign-body response that triggers the body to lay down new collagen.
Examples:
- poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra)
- calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse)
These materials are essentially inert stimulants that irritate tissue just enough to kickstart fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis.
Regenerative treatments aim to actually restore or rebuild tissue function and structure, ideally using biologic or bio-identical materials that support the body’s own regenerative pathways rather than just triggering scar-like collagen deposition.
Examples :
- Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)
- Exosomes (plated)
- Polynucleotides (PDRN)
- Autologous fat transfer with stem cell components
These are meant to improve tissue quality, hydration, vascularity, and elasticity more holistically, rather than just adding volume or bulk collagen.
Biostimulators tend to produce more type I/III collagen through fibrosis — good for volume and structure. Regenerative treatments aim more at tissue quality, skin texture, and cellular health, with a mechanism closer to “repair” than “reaction.”
One builds. One heals. Just because one is biostimulatory doesn’t mean it is regenerative and just because it is regenerative, it doesn’t mean it is biostimulatory.

Most people think neurotoxin = forehead lines. But it does so much more.
Here are 4 lower face + neck concerns I treat with neurotoxin, and what it actually does for each one
✨ Jawline — square/bulky from clenching + grinding? When the masseter muscle is relaxed, the jawline appears less square/bulky and more contoured.
✨ Chin — smooths dimpling and “orange peel” texture by relaxing the mentalis muscle
✨ Corners of mouth — lifts that resting frown look by relaxing the DAO muscle to lift downturned corners.
✨ Neck bands — overactive and strong bands pull downward creating sagging/jowling along the jawline. Prominent bands show when you talk or smile. When the platysma are relaxed the result is a smoother, tighter, more defined neck & jawline.
You might need 1 area or all 4 if these are any of your concerns.
Drop a 🙋 in the comments if you want me to break down what YOUR consult would look like, or book directly via the link in bio.
