In January of this year, People magazine released an article citing the harmful effects of UV lights used to cure gel polish in nail salons.

Gel polish became a popular alternative to regular nail polish due to its strength and long-lasting, smudge-proof characteristics.

When initially released, the light used to cure gel quickly, leaving clients with solid, totally dry nails when they left the salon, was a UV light. As People magazine notes, UV lights kill cells and can increase the risk of cancer. However, UV light to cure gel polish is not the only solution.
