Sorry I’ve been MIA…

Since my surgery on March 31st, my life has been turned upside down. I’m here now to fill you in…

The recovery of my surgery did not go as planned. I had a hiatal hernia and fundiplication for my acid reflux. I was told 3 weeks and I could return to work, that was not the case. By the middle of the 3rd week I realized I could not work in my state, I still was on a liquid diet and in tremendous pain. I took an additional week thinking that would be enough. I started back the 5th week and by the end of the second day I was in severe pain again. I called my gastroenterologist and he then informed me I needed 6-8 weeks for recovery (not the initial 3) and I needed to go back on a liquid diet.

I took the extra 3 weeks to heal and gain back my strength. By the 9th week I was so happy to be back at work. Unfortunately it was short lived. I ended up back in the hospital with a severe intestinal infection (unrelated to the surgery). After 3 days in the hospital I was finally home again, still too sick to work for another 2 weeks.

With all that going on I spiraled into a dark depression. I worked with my psychiatrist and started a medication to help. While the new medication helped my mood it had some nasty side effects. I started experiencing severe hair loss, hallucinations, memory loss, and (the biggest issue) severe tremor.

I sought out help and tried hypnotherapy, which helped for a short while. Got a referral for a neurologist and scheduled an appointment. He diagnosed me with a mixed tremor combined with tardive diyskinesia. Had to battle insurance but finally got the meds to help with the tremor. I’ve been on them almost 3 weeks and there has been much improvement (I can walk down stairs again)! I stopped the medication for depression and I finally feel like myself again.

Then things took a turn for the worst. I started having “episodes.” I would randomly start convulsing, my entire torso writhing in pain, unable to move, or speak properly. On my follow up appointment with the neurologist I informed him of these “episodes.” He was very concerned and scheduled testing. He is 99.99% sure I’m having seizures and may be epileptic.

I had an eeg today and have an appointment Tuesday for the results. I will be updating you all along the way. I am taking a 2 month medical leave in hopes to be stable by November 1st.
