HUGE NEWS!!!
Dave Joseph is officially a dad! Everything went well and they have a healthy baby boy to bring home with them.
We’re pretty stoked to welcome Dave to the fatherhood club, and he is planning on taking a bit of time off to settle into that role and look after his family. ā¤ļø
That means we will be running a man down at the shop for a few weeks, so bear with us and book early!
Congratulations and great work Dave and Kaya! We love you guys!

Had the pleasure of spending some time with Knox County Sheriff Patrick Polky today.

Pat came in and we talked about his and his family’s connection to the Midcoast, his history working on a commercial fishing boat, his journey through law enforcement, and how he ultimately became our sheriff.

We talked about the work he and his deputies are doing in response to the opioid crisis that continues to affect our community, his views on treatment and recovery, and his efforts to build a culture of care, empathy, accountability, and professionalism within the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

What stood out to me most was how down-to-earth and approachable Pat is. The conversation flowed easily. We talked about my family and his, and about the unique challenges and opportunities that come with living, working, and raising families here in the Midcoast.

I’m going to be honest. Most of you have known me for a good while now, and you know I rarely get political at the shop or on my social media. I’ve always felt it would be unfair to use my business as a sounding board for the constant left-versus-right nonsense that seems to dominate everything these days.

But the question of who leads our county’s law enforcement feels different to me.

That feels less like partisan politics and more like community stewardship, experience, leadership, judgment, and trust.

I personally believe the person who serves as our sheriff should have substantial law-enforcement experience within the community they are responsible for serving, a real understanding of this area, and a genuine connection to the people who live here. After talking with Sheriff Polky, I’m confident he is someone who has risen to that responsibility and should continue doing so.

At the shop, we also have a unique opportunity to spend time with many of the people who work in law enforcement and public safety throughout our area: local police officers, detectives, dispatchers, corrections officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, and others.

Over the years, the officers and public-safety professionals we cut have offered nothing but kind words and praise when speaking about Sheriff Polky and his leadership. That carries a lot of weight with me. When the men and women doing this work every day believe in and respect their leadership, I think the rest of us should pay attention.

Thank you, Pat, for stopping in and taking the time to talk today. Thank you for the sign that I’ll proudly display in support of your reelection, and thank you to you, your deputies, and all of our local law-enforcement officers and first responders for the work you do every day for the people of Knox County.

If you have questions, concerns, or thoughts for the sheriff, I’d encourage you to reach out to him. I think you might be surprised by just how approachable, down-to-earth, and willing to engage he is.

So, for what will probably be one of the very few political endorsements you’ll ever see come from me:

I know who I’ll be voting for for Knox County Sheriff this November.

I’d encourage you to take a close look at Patrick Polky, learn about the work he and his team are doing, and consider giving him your vote as well.
