Booked microneedling? Here are the aftercare basics we go over with every client.

Redness is common and usually settles within 1 to 24 hours, and many clients are back to normal in 1 to 2 days. Slight swelling can happen, and skin may feel dry a few days later. For about 48 hours, skip retinoids and exfoliants. Stick with a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer and a mineral sunscreen.

In a 2025 review of 21 studies, the side effects reported were mostly short-lived, with redness the most common. Your skin is your own, so your esthetician will tailor the advice to you.

A first facial can feel like a big step. Here is what three first-time clients wrote.

Review of Gaya Beauty & Spa, our sister spa in Marlborough, MA (Google):

“Great experience for my very first facial ever.” Paul M.

“Very relaxing! This was my 1st facial and will definitely be coming back in the near future.” Christina G.

“First time visiting and it was the best facial experience I’ve had.” Adriana R.

These are Google reviews of Gaya, not of La Lueur, and each reflects one person's experience. Individual results vary.

What is LED light therapy, and what is it not? It is a non-invasive treatment that uses different colors of light, and red and near-infrared light reach deeper than blue. Our facial uses LED light therapy as one part of the visit.

It is not a quick fix. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that some studies show subtle to noticeable improvement in fine lines, texture and redness, that results need regular, repeated use, and that not everyone sees them. Harvard Health adds that the best dose is still being worked out. The evidence is mixed.

According to a 2015 narrative mini-review in Gerontology, skin is largely collagen-rich connective tissue, made and maintained by cells called fibroblasts in the dermis. With age, the collagen fibers tend to break down and be lost, which may leave skin thinner and less resilient.

Why it matters. The firm, springy feel of younger skin has a lot to do with that collagen framework. The National Institute on Aging adds that loss of collagen and elastin can make skin look older, wrinkle and become more fragile. MedlinePlus names sun exposure as the single greatest factor in aging skin changes, which is why year-round sunscreen keeps coming up.

What this does not mean. The review is qualitative, so there is no figure for how much collagen is lost each year. It did not test any treatment or product, and it does not say collagen loss can be prevented or reversed. Collagen is also not the only thing that changes in aging skin.

Evidence label: Established research (narrative review). Limit: a short review of skin biology, not a trial.

Thinking about microneedling? Here is what we walk every client through before the first appointment.

Microneedling uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries, which prompt the skin's natural repair process. At La Lueur we pair it with Salmon DNA (PDRN), exosome and hyaluronic serums, and every visit starts with a consultation with one of our estheticians.

Swipe for six things worth knowing.

A few honest notes. Redness is common afterward and often settles within a day or two. Results build gradually and vary from person to person. Some allergies and health conditions, including a fish allergy, mean we will ask you to check with your doctor first.

In a 2025 systematic review of 21 studies and 723 patients, about 83% reported being satisfied with microneedling for facial rejuvenation, and the most common side effect was temporary redness. That is patient-reported satisfaction, not a promise about any one person's result. The review looked at microneedling alone.
