Experience matters when choosing someone to care for you after surgery.
Kristy Proffit brings 17 years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant at Duke in plastic surgery and wound care to her work at Body Works. She is comfortable in a post surgical setting and understands that recovery can leave you feeling sore, vulnerable and unsure of what to expect.
Kristy specializes in post surgical lymphatic drainage massage, taking the time to explain the process and help you feel comfortable throughout your session. These reviews from her clients speak to the patience, knowledge and kindness she brings to her work.
We’re grateful to have her on our team and to offer this care right here in Burlington.
If you have surgery coming up or your surgeon has recommended lymphatic drainage massage, reach out with questions or to schedule with Kristy.

Powerful and true
The recovery time for burnout is 1 to 3 years. Not as soon as you stop. Not a long weekend or a two-week vacation. Not a spa trip. Not a Sunday afternoon bubble bath. You cannot rest yourself out of years of damage overnight.
She took the time off.
Did the things people said would help.
Slept in. Went somewhere. Lit the candle. Took the bath. Gave herself the weekend everyone said she needed.
And woke up Monday still exhausted.
Still depleted in the specific way that doesn't respond to rest because it's not tiredness — it's something deeper. Something that accumulated over years of running on empty. Of pushing past the signals. Of treating her own limits as inconveniences to be managed rather than information to be respected.
That kind of damage doesn't heal in a weekend.
The nervous system that has been in overdrive for years doesn't power down after two weeks of vacation. The adrenal fatigue doesn't resolve because she finally stopped. The creativity that dried up, the motivation that disappeared, the joy that went somewhere she can't quite locate — none of it returns on a schedule that fits neatly into her calendar.
Recovery is slow.
Nonlinear.
Invisible to everyone watching from outside.
She might look fine and still be healing.
Might be laughing and still be rebuilding something that broke quietly over years of being asked for more than she had.
1 to 3 years.
Not as a sentence.
As permission.
To stop expecting herself to be recovered already.
To give the healing the time it actually requires.
Without apology.
Without rushing it for anyone else's comfort.
She's not lazy.
She's just finally being honest about how long this actually takes.
