Something I really wish more people in the hair industry understood is that tearing another stylist down will NEVER make you a better stylist. 🖤

I love this industry, I love what I do, and I genuinely love seeing other stylists succeed. But let's be real, this industry can be incredibly toxic sometimes, and a lot of that comes from the constant competition, judgment, and negativity toward one another.

Why are we so worried about what the stylist down the street is doing? Why do we feel the need to criticize someone else's work, prices, techniques, or success?

We're all artists. We all have different strengths, styles, experiences, and ways of doing things. And guess what? There's enough clientele out there for EVERYONE.

Another stylist being booked and busy doesn't take anything away from you. Someone charging more or less than you doesn't determine your worth. And someone doing something differently doesn't automatically mean they're doing it wrong.

One thing I am incredibly grateful for is the friendships I've made with other hairstylists, especially those who don't even work in the same salon as me. 🖤💜

Having stylist friends outside of my own salon who genuinely support me, cheer me on, share knowledge, and celebrate each other's successes means more than they probably realize. There's no weird competition, no need to compare ourselves, just mutual respect and a shared love for what we do. Those are the kinds of connections I wish more people in this industry could experience.

I wish more hairstylists focused on building a community instead of treating everyone around them like competition.

Share knowledge. Encourage newer stylists. Compliment someone's work. Refer clients to each other. Celebrate each other's wins.

I've been in this industry long enough to know that none of us have it all figured out. We're constantly learning, growing, and evolving as artists.

And personally, I think it's pretty amazing to have a circle of talented people around you who inspire you to keep growing.

The only stylist you should be competing with is the stylist you were yesterday.

At the end of the day, I'd much rather be known as someone who supports and uplifts other stylists than someone who has to tear them down to feel better about myself.

We deal with enough challenges in this industry as it is. We shouldn't have to worry about other stylists being part of the problem.

Community over competition. Always. 🖤💜✨
