Tonight is a special moment for me. 🙌🏾

As I fill in for Council President Joe Frappolli, I will become the first African American in Florence Township’s history to hold the gavel and preside over an official Council meeting.

When I decided to run for office, it was never about a title. It was about having a voice, serving my community and making sure others knew they had a place at the table too.

Tonight is a reminder that representation matters, especially for the little girls who may not yet realize what’s possible.

Grateful for the opportunity, humbled by the moment and proud to serve the community I call home. 💜

Leaving a legacy 🤞🏾

I just want to say THANK YOU. 💜

I know everything costs more right now. Groceries, bills, gas, housing, LIFE. Everybody is looking at their budget a little differently.

So when you continue to make room in yours for Laya’s Touch, I don’t take that lightly.

You could stretch your appointments.
You could go somewhere cheaper.
You could decide your hair and wellness can wait.

But instead, you continue to invest in yourself and trust me with your crown.

That trust helps me support my family, continue my education, buy quality herbs and products, and keep building a business centered around care instead of rushing people in and out of a chair.

So when I say I appreciate my clients, I genuinely mean it.

Thank you for putting me in the budget. 😂💜
Thank you for your referrals.
Thank you for coming back.
Thank you for growing WITH me.

Every appointment matters to this small business. And so do you.

Sometimes the style is to rest the hair. 🌿

Not another install.
Not more heat.
Not another slick back.
Not trying to make every strand behave.

Sometimes your crown needs you to leave it alone.

Cleanse it. Hydrate it. Give it a low-manipulation style and let it REST.

Especially when you’re dealing with breakage, thinning, heat damage, or transitioning hair, constantly styling can work against the progress you’re trying to make.

Every appointment doesn’t have to end with a dramatic transformation.

Sometimes the transformation is simply giving your hair what it needs instead of what you want it to look like. 💜

Rest is part of the routine too.

Sometimes a hard factory reset is required. 🌿

This herbal detox was focused primarily on her hair strands to remove layers of product buildup and give her hair a fresh start.

From the herbal-infused shampoo, to the detox paste, to the final herbal rinse, every step had a purpose:

Remove. Restore. Hydrate.

Now we’re entering the rest + rehabilitation phase.

For the next few weeks:
No heavy products.
No unnecessary tension.
Low manipulation.
Protective styling with intention.

Because retaining length isn’t about never touching your hair. It’s about knowing when your hair needs a break and what it needs while it’s resting.

Sometimes you have to clear away everything you’ve been piling on before your hair can properly receive what it actually needs. 🌿💜

Everyone is so quick to sell you a gimmick when the truth is your hair will remind you how consistent you’ve been with yourself.

The natural hair industry has grown tremendously. We have access to salon-quality products and tools that we couldn’t easily get years ago.

But with that has also come a million oils, serums and products promising to speed up your growth.

Truth is, your consistency matters more than any product you buy.

You can have the best products in the world, but if you don’t have a solid routine, you’re going to struggle to retain the progress you make.

And that’s really my goal with my clients.

I don’t want you dependent on me to do your hair. The majority of my clients really only NEED me for maintenance, treatments and trims.

I want you to feel confident caring for your own hair, wearing your own hair and feeling beautiful in it.

If you don’t have a routine yet, find a stylist who actually cares about the health of your hair and start there.

The magic is consistency. 💜

Still transitioning one of the worst cases of heat damage I’ve seen.

This area of her crown was damaged almost all the way to the scalp, so we knew from the beginning this wouldn’t be a quick journey.

But look at that new growth coming in. 🥹🙌🏾

We still have a long way to go, and I’m not rushing her hair just to create a dramatic before-and-after.

We’re protecting the new growth, slowly removing what’s damaged, and staying consistent.

For now, we celebrate every small win. 💜

Because healthy hair isn’t built overnight. It’s built appointment by appointment.

Hard eye roll 🙄😂

My client has been away all summer, wearing braids, and recently had her color refreshed by another stylist.

Now she wants to keep ALL her length AND have completely healthy hair.

Baby… y’all be wanting the impossible sometimes. 😂 And my job as your hair guide is to keep you grounded in reality.

Right now, the color has significantly compromised the outer layer of her hair, and we’re also seeing signs of additional heat damage.

Does that mean we have to cut everything off? No.

But we are pivoting.

She’s getting back on her regular routine, and we’ll use small, intentional trims to gradually close those gaps while protecting as much length as possible.

And I’m NOT measuring the health of her hair against a European standard of what “healthy” should look like.

I’m looking at HER curl pattern, strand structure, density, elasticity, and overall condition.

So our journey has changed.

We’re officially entering another transition phase. 💜

Sometimes healthy hair goals require you to adjust the plan, not abandon it.

Hair thinning should be addressed as soon as you notice it.

If an area is already thinning, adding tension can make it worse and regression is possible.

Avoid tight braids, heavy extensions, slick ponytails, and anything pulling on weak areas.

And don’t just cover the thinning with another hairstyle. Find out WHY it’s happening.

Your crown is giving you a warning. Listen early. 🌿💜
