✨ Tuesday Ingredient Spotlight: Niacinamide ✨

If I could recommend one ingredient that works for almost everyone, it’d be niacinamide.

This multitasking ingredient helps strengthen your skin barrier, balance oil production, calm redness, brighten uneven tone, and improve overall skin texture all while being gentle enough for most skin types.

✨ Helps strengthen the skin barrier
✨ Balances excess oil
✨ Minimizes the appearance of pores
✨ Brightens uneven skin tone
✨ Calms redness and irritation
✨ Supports smoother, healthier looking skin

The best skincare ingredients don’t have to be harsh to be effective, and niacinamide is proof of that. 💗

Have you added niacinamide to your routine yet? Tell me what you think in the comments! 👇🏽

Dry skin and dehydrated skin are NOT the same thing and knowing the difference can completely change your skincare routine.

These two terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe two very different things.

Dry skin is a skin type. It naturally produces less oil (sebum), which means it has fewer of the lipids needed to help keep the skin barrier healthy. People with dry skin often experience tightness, rough texture, flaking, and may notice fine lines appear more easily. Since it’s a skin type, it’s usually something you’re born with.

Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, is a skin condition. It means your skin is lacking water, not oil. The important thing to know is that any skin type can become dehydrated even oily or acne prone skin.

Some common causes of dehydration include:
💧 Not drinking enough water
☀️ Sun exposure
🧼 Over-cleansing or over exfoliating
❄️ Dry climates or air conditioning
🧪 Using products that disrupt the skin barrier

One of the biggest clues is that dehydrated skin can actually become oilier. When your skin doesn’t have enough water, it may increase oil production in an attempt to compensate. That’s why someone can have shiny skin and still feel tight or uncomfortable.

So how do you know what your skin needs?

✨ If your skin lacks oil, focus on nourishing ingredients that help replenish your barrier, like ceramides, squalane, and nourishing creams.

✨ If your skin lacks water, look for hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and products that help draw water into the skin while sealing it in.

The goal isn’t to guess it’s to understand what your skin is trying to tell you.

When you know the difference between dry and dehydrated skin, you stop buying products based on trends and start choosing products based on what your skin actually needs.

💕 Have you ever thought your skin was dry, only to realize it was actually dehydrated? Let me know below!

🩷 Sunday Reset

This week’s reminder: Sanitize your phone.

Think about everywhere your phone goes with you… the grocery store, the gym, your car, the bathroom, your purse, your kitchen counter. Then think about how many times a day it touches your face.

Your phone can collect oil, dirt, makeup, and bacteria throughout the day. Giving it a quick wipe once a week is a simple habit that helps create a cleaner environment for your skin.

✨ It only takes a minute, but your skin will appreciate the habit.

Save this as your weekly reminder, and I’ll see you next Sunday for another Sunday Reset. 💕

✨ Self-Care Saturday ✨

Who else loves an everything shower?

Not because you have to—but because sometimes slowing down and taking a little extra time for yourself is exactly what you need.

Today’s reset might look like:
🩷 Washing your hair
🩷 Exfoliating your skin
🩷 Shaving (if that’s your thing)
🩷 Applying a deep conditioner
🩷 Finishing with your favorite body lotion or body oil

It’s not about checking boxes it’s about creating a moment where you’re caring for yourself on purpose.

Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate. Sometimes it’s just putting on your favorite playlist, letting the hot water wash away a long week, and stepping out of the shower feeling refreshed.

💕 Tell me… what’s one thing that’s a must for your everything shower? Mine is between a good hair mask or shave oil!

✨ FAQ Friday

How do I know what skincare products are right for me?

If you’ve ever stood in the skincare aisle feeling completely overwhelmed, you’re not alone.

The truth is, the best skincare products aren’t determined by your age, what’s trending on social media, or what works for your best friend. They’re determined by your skin.

Before recommending products, I look at things like:
✨ Your skin type (dry, oily, combination, or balanced)
✨ Your skin concerns (acne, redness, pigmentation, aging, sensitivity, dehydration, etc.)
✨ Your current routine
✨ Your lifestyle and daily habits
✨ The health of your skin barrier

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people buying products based on marketing instead of ingredients. A product can be amazing for one person and completely wrong for another.

More products also doesn’t mean better results. In fact, overloading your routine with too many active ingredients can damage your skin barrier, increase sensitivity, and make your original concerns even worse.

A good skincare routine doesn’t have to include 10 different products. For most people, a simple routine with the right cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and a few targeted treatment products will outperform an expensive cabinet full of products that don’t work well together.

That’s why every facial at Skin 29:11 includes education. I want you to understand why I’m recommending something not just send you home with products.

When your home routine and your professional treatments work together, that’s when you’ll see the best long term results.

Not sure where to start? I’d be happy to help build a routine that’s customized specifically for your skin. 💕

🔍 Skin Check Wednesday | Why Is My Face Always Red?

Facial redness is one of the most common concerns I hear about in the treatment room, but here’s something important to know:

Redness is a symptom not a diagnosis.

Many people assume redness automatically means rosacea, but there are several reasons your skin may appear flushed or irritated. Understanding what triggers your redness is the first step toward finding the right solution.

Here are a few of the most common causes:

✨ Sensitive Skin
Some people naturally have skin that is more reactive. Certain ingredients, fragrances, weather changes, stress, or even temperature changes can cause the skin to flush more easily.

✨ Over-Exfoliation
Using too many active ingredients, exfoliating too often, or combining products that are too strong can weaken the skin barrier, leaving the skin red, irritated, and more sensitive than normal.

✨ Heat Exposure
Hot showers, saunas, workouts, direct sunlight, or even cooking over a hot stove can temporarily increase blood flow to the skin, causing redness or flushing.

✨ Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that often presents with persistent redness, visible blood vessels, flushing, and sometimes acne-like bumps. While estheticians can recognize signs that may suggest rosacea, only a medical provider can diagnose it.

✨ Broken Capillaries
Tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin can become visible over time due to genetics, aging, repeated sun exposure, trauma, or chronic inflammation.

💡 Skin Check Tip: Start paying attention to your triggers. Does your redness appear after using a certain product? Drinking alcohol? Eating spicy foods? Exercising? Taking a hot shower? Spending time in the sun? Keeping a mental note of these patterns can provide valuable information during a professional skin analysis.

Remember, not all redness is treated the same. What helps one person could actually make someone else’s skin worse.

🔍 Skin Check Wednesday Disclaimer

This series is provided for educational purposes only and is designed to help you better understand common skin concerns.

I cannot diagnose medical skin conditions, provide medical advice, or determine exactly what’s happening with your skin through social media, comments, messages, or photos. Every person’s skin is unique, and an accurate assessment requires an in-person skin analysis.

While these are some of the more common causes of facial redness, I cannot confirm or rule out a diagnosis without evaluating your skin in person. If your redness is persistent, worsening, painful, or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it is important to seek medical evaluation.

If your concerns appear to be outside the scope of esthetics or require medical evaluation, I will always recommend that you seek care from a board-certified dermatologist before beginning treatment.

My goal is to educate, support healthy skin, and help guide you toward the most appropriate care for your individual skin needs. 🩷

✨ Tuesday Ingredient Spotlight: Enzymes ✨

Not all exfoliation has to be harsh.

Enzymes work by gently dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells instead of scrubbing or aggressively resurfacing the skin. That means you can achieve smoother, brighter skin with less irritation.

They’re one of my favorite ingredients for clients with sensitive skin or anyone wanting that healthy glow without downtime.

✨ Gently exfoliates
✨ Brightens dull skin
✨ Improves texture
✨ Helps boost product absorption
✨ Leaves skin feeling soft, smooth, and refreshed

Sometimes the best results come from treating your skin with a little more kindness. 💗

Why does your skin get oily?

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror halfway through the day and wondered, “Why is my face so oily?” you’re definitely not alone. But here’s the interesting part: oily skin isn’t your skin working against you. It’s often your skin trying to protect itself.

Sebaceous glands naturally produce an oil called sebum. Sebum isn’t bad in fact, it’s essential. It helps keep your skin soft, supports your skin barrier, and protects against moisture loss. The problem isn’t usually that your skin makes oil… it’s why it’s making more of it.

Here are some of the most common reasons:

🧬 Genetics: Some people naturally have larger or more active oil glands.

💧 Dehydration: One of the biggest misconceptions in skincare is that oily skin doesn’t need moisturizer. When your skin lacks water, it may produce more oil in an attempt to protect itself.

🧼 Over-cleansing or harsh products: Using products that strip your skin can disrupt your skin barrier. Your skin often responds by producing even more oil to compensate.

🩺 Hormones: Puberty, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, menopause, and even stress can influence oil production.

🌡️ Environment: Heat and humidity naturally increase oil production, which is why many people notice they’re oilier during the summer months.

So, what should you do?

✔️ Cleanse gently don’t scrub your skin.
✔️ Use a lightweight moisturizer every day (yes, even if you’re oily).
✔️ Choose products designed for your skin type rather than trying to “dry out” your skin.
✔️ Wear SPF daily, because sun damage can further stress your skin.

The goal isn’t to eliminate oil it’s to help your skin find balance.

Healthy skin will always produce some oil. Understanding why your skin behaves the way it does is the first step toward building a routine that actually works.

💗 Tell me below are you naturally oily, dry, combination, or I have no idea?

🩷 Sunday Reset

This week’s reminder: Wash your face towels.

Your face towel works hard for your skin but only if it’s clean. Every use leaves behind moisture, oil, dead skin cells, and product residue.

Keeping a fresh towel in rotation is one of the easiest ways to create a cleaner environment for your skin.

✨ Fresh towel. Fresh start.

Save this as your weekly reminder, and I’ll see you next Sunday for another Sunday Reset. 💕
