Mousey Brown Salon, hair care for the smart set. Love your fur. Proudly serving Williamsburg, Brookl You got what you got. Meet the Business Owner: Meredith C.
Established in 1997-mousey brown opened on Bedford Avenue and N. 9th street on Valentine's Day of 1997 to accommodate the new wave of Williamsburg & Greenpoint residents and visitors that needed a salon that was fresh and modern, but with moderate prices. There weren't any "cool" salons, just barbershop's and grandma's hair salons; and good luck if English was your only language. The founder of m
ousey brown took a gamble on all those good looking folks she rode the L train with into Manhattan on her way to work , and opened a small salon just for them. By 2004 mousey had outgrown its Bedford Avenue location , and moved to a sunny corner on McCarren Park. Tennessee native Meredith Chesney gave Williamsburg its first salon for the hipster set and the pioneering creatives in the area when she opened shop on Bedford Avenue in 1997. When her client base grew too big for the Bedford Avenue location, she converted the space into a retro barbershop/candy store for kids and gents called, Brooklyn General Barber. Mousey Brown moved eastward to a light-filled corner shop across from McCarren Park. Chesney keeps the setting here simple with walnut floors and styling stations, comforting forties tunes, and an unpretentious attitude. The atmosphere isn't overly embellished part of what gives the space a "non-salon" feel. Ms Chesney's career in hair began in the early eighties , but took a short detour through the undergraduate film program at Tisch School of the Arts to indulge her passion for photography and production design. After moving to Williamsburg Brooklyn in 1996, and tired of the L train to work in Manhattan salons; Chesney pioneered the modern neighborhood salon for 11211 .
