CHEMO + NAIL CARE
Some chemotherapy treatments can cause changes to your fingernails and toenails, including dryness, brittleness, ridges, discoloration, or increased sensitivity.

A few simple habits can help protect them:

✨ Keep nails clean, short, and gently filed
✨ Moisturize hands, feet, nails, and cuticles regularly
✨ Avoid cutting or aggressively pushing back cuticles
✨ Wear gloves when cleaning, washing dishes, or gardening
✨ Avoid biting or picking at nails and surrounding skin
✨ Be cautious with manicures, pedicures, artificial nails, and harsh nail products
✨ Tell your care team about pain, swelling, drainage, or other signs of infection around a nail

Ask your oncology team about any nail products you’re considering during treatment.

CHEMO + HAIR CARE
Chemotherapy can affect both your hair and scalp, so your usual hair care routine may need a few adjustments during treatment.

✨ Choose a gentle shampoo and conditioner
✨ Wash with lukewarm water and avoid vigorous scrubbing
✨ Use a soft towel and gently pat hair dry
✨ Limit heat styling and harsh chemical treatments
✨ Use a wide-tooth comb or soft brush if your hair is fragile
✨ If hair loss occurs, continue gently cleansing and moisturizing your scalp
✨ Protect an exposed scalp from the sun with sunscreen or a hat

If you’re considering scalp cooling, ask your oncology team whether it’s an appropriate option for your specific treatment.

Always check with your care team before trying new scalp treatments or products during chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy can make skin drier, more sensitive, and more reactive than usual. This is a good time to simplify your routine and focus on gentle, supportive skincare.

✨ Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser
✨ Moisturize regularly with a gentle, hydrating formula
✨ Avoid harsh scrubs, exfoliating acids, and irritating ingredients unless your care team approves them
✨ Use lukewarm rather than very hot water
✨ Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors
✨ Keep lips moisturized with a simple lip balm
✨ Introduce new products cautiously

Your skin’s needs can change throughout treatment, so a simple routine is often best.

Always check with your oncology team or our office about products or treatments that are appropriate for you during chemotherapy.
