Slow. Once a week for about four weeks, then if your skin is tolerating it, work up to twice a week. You might get some redness or flaking early on, that’s normal, it’s your skin adjusting. Push through that window and the results are worth it. The mistake most people make is going too hard too fast and scaring themselves off it.

Hey Annie — what’s the difference between a cut that grows out well and one that doesn’t?
It comes down to the layering. Soft, blended layers with texture through the ends and weight removed internally will grow out smoothly, so you’ve got more time between visits. Heavier ends with harsher, blunt layering grows out faster and rougher, which means you’re back in the chair sooner. If you want a cut that still looks good in week eight, soft and blended is the answer.

Hey Maddi — if you have to take your gel off at home, what should you do?
You’ll need acetone, a cotton ball, and tin foil. Soak the cotton in acetone, lay it on the nail, and wrap the fingertip in foil. Let it sit about 10 minutes and the gel should slide right off. The key word is soak, not scrape. Picking it off takes your top layer of nail with it.
