A little work. A little indulgence. A lot of Chicago. ✨
I’m in town taking clients, soaking up the city’s beautiful colors and textures, slipping into a few beautiful places.
This glow up ✨ If depth is your clients most important trait within the Three Dimensions of Color, natural gray may not be their most flattering shade.
While consulting at Amanda Moncur Salon in Utah, a client walked in ready to transition back to her natural gray.
Before we talked formula, I wanted to talk about what that change would do visually.
Going gray is not just about embracing your natural hair. It changes your value and, in many cases, lowers the contrast between your hair and your skin.
For some clients, that softness is beautiful.
For others, especially when depth is doing a significant amount of the visual work, removing that depth can make the complexion appear flatter, softer, or less defined.
That doesn’t mean you can’t go gray.
It means we should understand what the gray is doing to the overall color story before deciding that “natural” automatically means “most flattering.”
Hair color should always be evaluated in relationship to the skin.

AirTouch at HB Collective in Brentwood, California.
Today, we covered the technique, the purpose behind it, and how to identify the clients it is best suited for, especially lower-contrast clients who need softness rather than strong, obvious dimension.
AirTouch allows highlights to whisper through the hair, creating a result that looks expensive, refined, and beautifully blended. It is a long and detailed process, but the finished result makes every step worth it.
What impressed me most was how quickly everyone got up, got their hands in the hair, and caught on to the technique. I’m confident that everyone in today’s class is going to produce some incredible AirTouch work, and I’m so excited to see their results.

What if color analysis came to you?
Today’s house call was less than a mile from where I live, and my client had been mistyped before. Instead of guessing, we rebuilt her analysis from the ground up: undertone, value, intensity, contrast, and how each color responded against her natural coloring.
She landed beautifully in Warm Autumn.
When you’re in the right palette, you stop forcing colors to work. You start seeing why certain shades make you look more rested, more refined, and more like yourself.
She left loving her new palette, with a newfound appreciation for her seasonal power.
And yes, her Pomeranians were the cutest little assistants. 🐾
