Weeks 32 to 40 are their own event.
Sleep is a negotiation. Your ribs are being used as furniture. Your hips ache in a way that doesn't respond to stretching, sitting, standing, or anything else you've tried. And everyone keeps asking how you're feeling, which is a genuinely hard question to answer politely.
This is the stretch where Angela's clients tend to come in every two weeks instead of once a month. Not because anything's wrong — because it helps, and because an hour of relief buys you a better week.
The prenatal cushions matter most right now. Being able to lie face down, fully supported, with the weight off your belly and your low back, when you haven't been able to do that since spring? It's a small thing that doesn't feel small.
If you're in the home stretch, come see her.

"I'm not an athlete. Sports massage isn't for me."
Respectfully — it might be exactly for you.
Sports massage isn't about what you compete in. It's about what you repeat. And a body that sits at a desk for nine hours, then carries a toddler on one hip, then sleeps wrong, is running the same repetitive-load problem as a marathoner. Same tissue. Same nervous system. Same rules.
Melissa treats the pattern, not the label. Locked-up shoulders. Hips that feel welded shut. That one spot between your shoulder blades you've been reaching for since 2019.
She's currently in an advanced sports massage intensive with One Soma Bodywork, sharpening exactly this kind of assessment work.
You don't need a race bib. You just need a body you'd like to feel better in.

She's back.
Melissa spent this week in an advanced sports massage intensive with One Soma Bodywork — days of hands-on work in fascia science, pain science, and nervous system-based manual therapy.
Here's what that means for you: new tools, sharper assessment, and a therapist who just spent a full week getting better at the exact thing you're coming to her for.
Continuing education isn't a box we check at 89 & Ivy. It's the whole point. You're not paying for an hour on a table — you're paying for what's in our hands when you get there.
Her schedule is open. It won't stay that way long.

"Is massage safe when you're pregnant?"
It's the most common question Angela gets, and it deserves a straight answer instead of a vague one.
Here's how we handle it. We see prenatal clients in the second and third trimester — 12 weeks and beyond. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, or if anything at all has been complicated, talk to your OB or midwife first and we'll work with whatever they tell you. If they say no, we say no. We're not going to talk anyone into an appointment.
Angela positions you with prenatal cushions or side-lying support, adjusts pressure to what your body wants that day rather than what a protocol says, and avoids the areas that prenatal training says to avoid.
Twenty years of experience mostly means knowing when not to do something.
If you're unsure whether it's right for you, call and ask. We'd rather have the conversation than have you guess.

What pregnant clients actually come to Angela for:
→ The low back that started complaining around week 20 and never stopped
→ Hips that feel like they're being slowly pried apart, because they are
→ That sciatic zing down one leg
→ Shoulders and neck, carrying tension you didn't know you were holding
→ Swollen, heavy legs and feet at the end of the day
→ Sleep. Or rather, the pursuit of it.
→ An hour where nobody needs anything from you
That last one is not a joke, and it's not filler. Pregnancy is a season where every conversation is about the baby. A prenatal session is 60 minutes where the entire focus is you.
Massage isn't medical treatment and it won't fix everything. But easing the physical load makes the rest of it more manageable — and there's real value in that.

Riding Slaughter Pen every weekend. Chasing a PR. Playing pickleball four nights a week. Deadlifting like you're still 25.
Then wondering why that hip won't stop talking to you.
Here's the thing nobody tells you: recovery isn't the reward for training. It IS the training. It's the part where the adaptation actually happens.
Melissa's sports massage work is built for people who are still in it: → Restore range of motion you didn't know you'd lost → Break the tension patterns that turn into injuries → Recover faster between hard efforts → Fix the thing before it becomes The Thing
And this week she's leveling all of it up at an advanced sports massage intensive with One Soma Bodywork — training in the same nervous system and fascia-based approach used with pro and Olympic-level athletes.
That work is coming back to Bentonville. Get on her books.

Most people think sports massage means "deep tissue, but harder."
It isn't.
Sports massage is assessment-driven work. Where is the restriction actually coming from? Is this tissue, or is this a nervous system that's decided to guard? Is the pain where the problem is — or where the problem is showing up?
That distinction is exactly what Melissa is immersed in this week at an advanced sports massage intensive with One Soma Bodywork: fascia science, pain science, and nervous system-informed manual therapy.
Because muscle tension is, first and foremost, a nervous system event. You can hammer a tight hamstring all day. If the system doesn't feel safe letting go, it won't.
This is the difference between a massage that feels good for an afternoon and one that changes how you move next month.
