Thinning locs? Let's catch and stop the breakage BEFORE it turns into locs hitting the floor.

It you've noticed your locs getting thinner, weaker, or developing weak spots, don't wait until the damage is worse to address it.

Your locs need more than just a retwist. Seek out a loc professional that can repair your locs.

If your locs have been telling you something is wrong, listen to them!

I personally do not even bring things like this to the internet. But thought about how could never do that to a client.

A company looking to preserve their reputation/make a customer whole is supposed to eat that loss and honor the contract.

However, they showed what kind of business they run. No integrity. No accountability. No professionalism. No conflict resolution skills.
Lack of communication. And the list goes on.

I played it their way. My way now.
Everybody in Baton Rouge already know the inside of these so I don't have to say what apartments it is.

Frizziniess is normal...
6 inches of loose hair at your roots is not.

Proper retwisting allows the hair to continuously grow and form into/long healthy locs.

Skipping retwists will have your locs looking like this too.

Name of service: Crochet Maintenance + repairs.

“I just want to combine them.”

I actually advised her not to. 👀

When your locs are already on the thicker side, combining them can leave you with fewer locs than you may be happy with later. My goal is always to help my clients make decisions they’ll still love years from now, not just in the moment.

Instead, I used crochet maintenance to reinforce her weak roots by pulling the loose hairs back into each loc, helping restore strength without sacrificing the fullness of her set. Then I finished with a trim to remove the frayed ends, giving her locs a cleaner, healthier, and more polished look.

Sometimes the best service isn’t saying “yes” to what a client asks for—it’s educating them on what will protect the long-term health and appearance of their locs. Healthy locs are all about making the right decisions at the right time.

Would you have combined them, or kept the fullness? Tell me what you would’ve done in the comments. 👇🏽

POV: You're a Master Loctitian, a mom of 4, and somehow everyone still expects you to remember what's for dinner. 😂

This is what a normal day looks like for me—clients, school pickups, cooking, running back to the salon, answering business calls in between, and trying to remember if I drank water today.

I'm learning that balance isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about doing what matters most, one day at a time.

This season, I'm bringing y'all along for all of it. The healthy loc transformations, the business, the mom life, the wins, the chaos, and everything in between.

If you've ever wondered what life is really like behind a busy salon... Welcome. 🤍

Follow along if you love:
Healthy loc content
Realistic entrepreneur life
Mom life (the unfiltered version 😂)
Business tips & education
A little laughter mixed in with the chaos

Now tell me... what's the one thing on your to-do list today that you've been avoiding? 👀

It blows my mind that I have so many clients come in after years and years of having locs; and ask for a middle part.

I always recommend it because long term it never fails. A middle part is wanted.

A crooked middle part might not seem like a big deal, but it can completely throw off the symmetry of your entire style.

Instead of forcing the locs to lay a certain way, I used shears and a crochet needle to carefully redefine her part while preserving the integrity of her locs. It’s one of those small details that makes a huge difference in the finished look.

Now be honest... did you even notice the crooked part before the reveal? 😂

And if your parts could use a little love, let me know in the comments or book with me to get your Mended Locs fix!

I built a lot, but I was carrying so much that I couldn’t fully enjoy or expand what I built.

For a long time, I felt like I had to keep showing up online like everything was okay.

The truth is… behind the scenes, I was always carrying a lot more than people knew.

Over the last year, I stepped back from posting, Essential Loc Co slowed down, my mentorship took a pause, and I wasn’t showing up the way I normally do. It wasn’t because I stopped caring. It was because I was trying to survive a season of life that required more from me than I had to give.

While building my businesses, I was also carrying a lot of responsibility at home. A lot of what I earned went toward keeping things together instead of being poured back into the dreams I worked so hard to build.

From the outside, it looked like we had everything figured out. The followers, the clients, the success… but behind the scenes, I was exhausted. I had everything figured out.

I also walked through one of the hardest personal seasons of my life, and I’m now entering a new chapter. Seems abrupt but I kept it private because I wasn’t looking for sympathy. I needed time to process, heal, and find myself again.

But I’m sharing this because I never want anyone to believe that success means life is always easy. There is a real person behind the brand.

I’m still proud of what I’ve built. Six years of Mended Locs. Essential Loc Co. Thousands of clients educated and served. A community that has supported me through every season.

And now I’m rebuilding—with more clarity, more boundaries, and more purpose.

To everyone who stayed, supported me, booked with me, purchased from me, or simply checked in… thank you. 🤍

And if you’re new here, welcome. I’m Shabbs, Master Loctitian, educator, and founder of Mended Locs + Essential Loc Co.
