Vintage Hair Gallery, formerly known as the Healey Building Barber Shop, is located on the ground floor of the historic Healey Building in the heart of the Fairlie-Poplar Historic district in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Upon its completion in 1913, the Healey became the first skyscraper in Georgia constructed after the civil war. The Healey Building Barber Shop was owned and operated by a legendary barber, the late Bill White. He was well received and respected in the community. His clientele base was predominantly professionals. Judges, lawyers, bank presidents, and other high ranking state officials were regulars in the Healey Building Barber Shop. White was passionate about his work; he often joked that he would be shipped straight from his shop to Patterson's Funeral Home. Herbert Williams, a Georgia native, purchased the Healey Building Barber Shop from Bill White, and, in February 2004, launched Vintage Hair Gallery. Williams' love for his craft as a barber, coupled with his admiration for historic preservation made the opportunity to opening up shop in a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places one that he could not pass up. Williams kept the shop in its original vintage décor and accents. With minor modern upgrades he has created the best of both time periods. Vintage is eclectic, classic, but with a modern feel. From the old-style barber chairs to the retro Coca-Cola machine, the shop's look evokes the essence of the good old days while providing the modern conveniences of today.
