đż Sunday Reset | Be a Tourist in Your Own Town
This weekâs invitation...
Go somewhere close to home that youâve been meaning to visit.
Maybe itâs a little shop you always drive past, a local restaurant youâve never tried, a park you havenât explored, a farmers market, a historic spotâor even somewhere you havenât visited in years.
Weâre usually pretty good at exploring when we travel, but somehow the places right around us get put on the âI should go there sometimeâ list.
This week, pick one.
No big plans required. Just go see whatâs been sitting practically in your backyard.
And bonus points if you discover a new local favorite. đ
What's one place around Appleton or the Fox Valley that you think everyone should visit at least once? I personally love the Hearthstone!
Take a deep breath, reset, and step into the new week one day at a time.

đ World Mental Health Day
Today is World Mental Health Day, and it's a good reminder that we don't always know what someone else is carrying.
One thing I've learned from years behind the chair is that a hair appointment is rarely just about hair.
We talk. We laugh. We celebrate the good things. We talk through the hard things. And over time, I get to know what's happening in the lives of the people who sit in my chair.
That's one of the reasons creating a comfortable, welcoming and judgment-free space at Shortcuts Salon in Appleton matters so much to me.
You don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to pretend everything is perfect. You can simply show up as yourself. đ
On World Mental Health Day, maybe we can all remember to give ourselvesâand each otherâa little extra grace.
Because around here, it's never just a haircut.

đ Fall Hair Color Has Entered the Salon
This is exactly what I love about fall hair colorârich, dimensional, and absolutely gorgeous when the sunlight hits it.
For this salon guest, those deep brunette tones with hints of warm red create a beautiful color that doesn't scream âI changed my hair for fall!â but definitely feels ready for the season.
And that's something I always remind my salon guests: a seasonal hair change doesn't have to mean a completely different color. We can add warmth, richness, depth or dimension to what you already love.
As your hairstylist, fall is one of my favorite seasons for playing with richer hair color.
Are you team richer & darker for fall, or do you keep your hair color the same year-round?

Hair Tip Tuesday | You May Be Using WAY Too Much Product
More product doesn't automatically mean better results.
In fact, using too much can be the reason your hair feels heavy, greasy or impossible to style.
A better approach?
Start small.
You can always add more, but once you've coated your hair with too much product, there's no tiny undo button hiding on the bottle.
And before applying creams, oils or styling products, emulsify the product between your hands first. That helps distribute it more evenly instead of depositing one big blob in one area.
Where you put it matters, too. Many products belong primarily through the mid-lengths and endsânot directly at your roots.
Professional haircare should make your routine easier, not give you another complicated thing to figure out.
Not sure how much of your product you should actually be using? Bring it up at your next appointment.

đ October Product Special: Get Ahead of Dry Hair Season!
Cooler weather is here, indoor heat is coming, and this is a great time to give your hair a little extra love before it starts feeling dry.
For the month of October, enjoy 10% OFF all deep conditioners, hair masks, and leave-in conditioners at Shortcuts Salon!
Deep conditioning treatments and leave-in conditioners can help add moisture, improve softness and manageability, and give dry or color-treated hair some extra support. Think of it as getting a jump start on your fall and winter hair care instead of waiting until your hair is already begging for moisture.
And here's a little side note you might not know: deep conditioners aren't just for the hair on your head! They can also be used occasionally to help soften and condition coarse, dry beard hair. So yes...the bearded people in your life can get in on this one too. đ
Not sure which product is right for your hair? Ask me! That's part of what I'm here for. We'll find the professional haircare that makes sense for your hair and routine.

This week's invitation...
Instead of making another to-do list, make a not-to-do list.
What doesn't deserve your time or energy this week?
Maybe it's saying yes when you really want to say no. Checking work after a certain time. Trying to make everything perfect. Or filling every empty spot on your calendar.
Sometimes deciding what you're not going to do creates exactly the breathing room you need.
What would you put on your not-to-do list this week?

đ So Many ProductsâŚWhich One Do You Actually Need?
Walking into a salon and seeing shelves full of professional haircare products can be a little overwhelming.
Shampoo for moisture. Shampoo for volume. Leave-ins. Oils. Texture sprays. Heat protectants. Styling products...
But here's the thing: you don't need all of them.
I carry different product options because everyone's hairâand everyone's routineâis different.
Your hair texture, density, color, scalp, styling habits and even how much effort you're realistically willing to put into your hair all matter when choosing products.
Maybe you need a complete routine.
Maybe you need ONE product that solves the thing that's driving you crazy.
And if you already have something that works? I'm not going to tell you to change it just because there's something new on my shelf.
My job as your hairstylist isn't to sell you the most products. It's to help you understand what your hair needs, what a product actually does, and whether it's worth adding to your routine.
So ask questions! That's exactly what I'm here for. đ
What's the hair product you have the hardest time choosingâshampoo & conditioner, styling products, heat protection, or something else?

Fresh Color + A Little Brightness â¨
Sometimes you don't need a completely new lookâyou just need to refresh what you already love.
For this salon guest, we did a base color retouch, highlights, toner, and a haircut to refresh her color, add brightness and dimension, and clean up those ends.
I love how the highlights add dimension throughout her long hair while the toner brings everything together for a soft, blended finish.
Hair color isn't always about a dramatic transformation. Sometimes it's simply about maintaining your color, adding a little brightness, and keeping your hair looking and feeling its best.
Are you a âkeep what I love and refresh itâ personâor do you like changing things up?

Hair Tip Tuesday | Why Wonât My Curls Stay?
You curled your hair. It looked great.
And an hour later...where did the curls go?
A few little things can make a BIG difference when you're curling your hair at home.
Firstâand this one is non-negotiableâalways use a thermal protectant before using a curling iron or any hot tool. Heat styling can damage the hair over time, and protecting your hair should come before creating the style.
Then pay attention to a few other things:
⢠Section size matters. If you take sections that are too large, the heat may not distribute evenly enough to create a lasting curl.
⢠Don't crank up the heat unnecessarily. Hotter doesn't automatically mean a better or longer-lasting curl.
⢠Let the curl cool before touching it. Hair needs time to cool in its new shape. Pulling, brushing or running your fingers through it immediately can undo the work you just did.
⢠Watch how much product you're using. Heavy products can weigh down some hair types before you even start curling.
Once everything is completely cool, gently separate the curls with your fingers and finish with the appropriate styling product for your hair.
And rememberânot everyone's hair holds curl the same way. Your hair type, condition, haircut and even the products you're using can affect your results.
As an Appleton hairstylist, these are exactly the kinds of little styling adjustments I can help you troubleshoot during your appointment.
What's harder for youâcreating the curl or getting it to STAY?
